Bolt-on's
Re: Bolt-on's
um...anything you can bolt on....most consider anything that touches oil is NOT a bolt on...ie...rockers, cam, heads...
off the top of my head:
ram air
lid
maf
bigger or ported throttle body
pulley
intake
headers
exhaust
computer tune
electric water pump
then you get to suspension mods
lca
phb
sfc
lca brackets
springs/shocks
sway bars
torque arm

Re: Bolt-on's
Dam thats alot of dough I was told to leave the maf alone is that true and also I would leave my intake seeing where it is an ls1 already ,and was thinking of the bbk 80mm tb it says 8-10 hp is this true?
Re: Bolt-on's
the throttle body is a good waste of money on a mild engine. probably more like 4-5hp...
you already have the LS6 intake...all 01/02 fbodies came with them. i was just listing that as one of the bolt ons.
the best first mods are hands down....lid, headers, catback and stall converter for autos.
i personally think the SSRA is a great early mod for any non-ramair equiped car.
go through and read the firs 10 pages of this forum...most of your questions will be discussed.
you also need to establish a goal and a budget. how fast do you wanna go? how street-friendly? do you want street car or drag car?

). Then they came out with the LS6 motor for the Corvette Z06 and upgraded the the intake manifold to flow better then the previous LS1 manifold. They called that the LS6 intake manifold. But in 2001 GM looked at this and said why the heck are we still giving TA's and Camaros LS1 manifolds when the LS6 manifolds are just sitting here?So the last 2 years got the LS6 intake manifold which is good for 7-10 rwhp gains over the older LS1 version. Now there is the Fast LSX intake manifold which I believe is supposed to be good for 5 rwhp above LS6 (like you have) and up to 15 rwhp above the ls1 (like I have).
Here is my list of full bolt-ons for these cars.
Power adder bolt-ons:
Lid
Catback/cutout
LT headers with ORY or catted Y
SSRA/FTRA (if you don't have factory ram air)
Underdrive pulley
Ported Throttle body (new or even just port the stock one)
LS6 or LSX intake manifold
Must have bolt-ons for getting faster but not HP adders:
aftermarket torque converter (3000+ stall) w/ tranny cooler (autos only)
Shift kit (autos only)
Aftermarket shifter (manuals only)
Aftermarket clutch (manuals only)
SFC
LCA
PHB
Nitto 555R Drag Radials (well they do bolt-on after they make it on rims
)
Re: Bolt-on's
wow....you're making this alot more confusing than it is.
all z28s, SSs, trans ams, ws6s, and firehawks....came with the LS1 based engine...which is nothing more than a random choice of numbers and letters to describe a type/design of engine.
in 2000 GM came out with the ZO6 which had a slightly more agressive engine. which was based on the LS1 engine, they called it the LS6. it had a slightly better block, more agressive cam, better flowing heads and a better flowing intake manifold.
in 2001, GM decided to install the intake manifold from the LS6 engine on all camaros and firebirds equipped with the LS1 engine. so every v8 in the camaros and firebirds in 01 and 02 had the LS6 intake manifold. it flowed slightly better and yielded small gains in power.

Re: Bolt-on's
i wouldn't call a stall or shift kit a bolt-on. Like said above, touches oil, not a bolt-on in the basic sense of the word.
