biggest tire size on 18s
hey guys, i needed to find out what the widest tire i can fit on an 18 inch rim for the front of our cars. i was told that a 245/40 was the largest. any help would be greatly appreciated, i would like to go larger if possible, thanx
It all really depends on the OFFSET of the rim, not the diameter.
I am running 285X35ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sports on Forgeline LS rims that are 18X9.5 with a 43MM offset all the way around, my stock height 2001 Z28. I have no clearance or rubbing issues.
The stock Z28 rims (16X8) are 32MM offset from the factory. The more offset the deeper the dish of the rim from the lug nuts to the outer rim. The low riders usually go with 100% offset, to get that really deep dish look. The greater the offset of the rim, the more it will stick out from the well.
Hope this helps you out in some way.

Unless your car is lowered, you should have no problems running a larger size tire on a 38MM rim. I personally would not go any wider than a 10" rim on the front (and that's pushing it), and a 11" rim on the rear. I kept the same width all the way around so I have the option of rotating the tires every 5,000 miles. I would also stay with the same tire diameter all the way around, so it won't play hell with your ASR system. Your stock height tires are 26.50".
Good luck in your tire choice.
