Big Miles

I recently purchased a 98 Z28 and it has 192,xxx miles on it. has anyone heard of any other ls1's with this many miles? The car has no real issues as far as performance 140+ with ease and smokes my buddies modded 95 lt1. should I be worried about the milage issue?

If it has been properly maintained, the engine itself should last well beyond 200K. Accessories etc. are a different thing, of course.

What mods does he have? Not trying to call BS but 192,000 miles on a LS1 isn't exactly placing the car in its prime. If he is well modded and you still "smoke" him then maybe I should save up a little money and sell my LT1 so that I can get a LS1 if they truly are that awesome. No flames intended here, I just think that a stock 192,000 mile LS1 car that will still whoop up on a modded LT1 car is pretty impressive.

BTW, what are high mileage '98 LS1s going for nowadays?

Re: Big Miles

I paid 3650 for the car at a local dealer, the car was listed on ebay, but I made a cash offer and they accepted.

As far as the LT1 is concerned, he has a ported mass air, cut out, K&N cold air, throttle body bypass and 52mm tbody. its an automatic and i believe it has 2.73 gears.

My car has a ported mass air, K&N panel, moddified airbox and EGR cut off.

So you're telling us that all LS-1 cars with high mileage can't possibly be performing at their peak... but what you failed to realize is LT-1 cars are 11-12 years old now. Are you saying there aren't any LT-1 cars with high miles that still run good? you must be, for the sake of consistency.

And yes, ls-1 cars truly ARE that awesome.

Re: Big Miles

Well, my car has 67,xxx miles on it because it wasn't driven for two years because of the wreck in my sig. I ran a friend's LT1 car that had 140,xxx miles on it before my wreck and I manhandled him like a red-headed step child. BTW, he had full exhaust and 1.6 RRs also. Normally, a f-body with high mileage will not run like it did when it had low mileage because they are fairly inexpensive and young people like me and my buddy beat the living **** out of them with low miles, therefore causing them to run like poop with high miles. I'm not saying that I don't believe it, its just that I find it very rare to see a f-body with just under 200,000 miles running that well.

Re: Big Miles

Also, that LT1 that 98drkbluls1 ran was almost like my car except that mine is a 6-speed with 3.42 gears and I have the stock TB still. Mine will be one hell of a sleeper when I get through with it because my goal is to take off/replace parts to lighten it up by 1000 pounds. That should be good for several tenths, I would think. Sorry to hijack the post, BTW.

98drkbluls1, that is one hell of a deal you got for a mid 13 second car. Hell, I paid $5000 for mine and I bet you'd probably beat me from that I've read in this post. Good find, good find.

Re: Big Miles

My 94 LT1 has 160+k miles on it and runs great(no smoke, no oil consumption whatsoever, and pulls hard). In the last several months Ive gone on several 1000+mile trips and the car has ran flawlessly. In fact it hasnt given me any major problems in well over a year. There are several LT1s on this board with over 200k miles. In fact heres a thread with several of them in it:

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ht=Mileage+LT1

As far as the LS1, its a good motor, I see no reason why it shouldnt run just as long as LT1's do.

Re: Big Miles

its weird that the car was at a dealer. normally cars with high mileage just get auctioned off. was it a big dealer or just a local guy?

Re: Big Miles

agreed, dealers usually don't want to spend the time or $$ to get the car back up to spec, but some will.
