The most common place is in the intermediate pipe right before the rear axle.

on the exhaust..

depends on what you want... if it were me,
I would do it before the cats and only open it for track use..

for all the time uncorked sound.. at the back of the car before the rear axle..

Lots of serious drone then...especially if you leave it uncapped all the time.

That would be correct...Seems to be the most common place that people place their cut-out...

Still haven't figured out you're not in an LT1 anymore

You have two choices in the I-pipe before the axle or in the I-pipe after the axle - at the bend just as it goes into the muffler - Zed style.

If you intend to run it all the time go Zed style, less drone. If you're looking for max performance, go before the axle.

Good Luck

Definatly goin for perf. here. I also want to be able to uncap it and run around Purdue University with it off. Their is a LS1 Formula around here that has a straight pipe that is really loud and I like how it sounds.

On the exhaust duh??? Where did you wanna put it?

JK, you set yourself up for that one, anyhow like everyone said, on the intermediate before the axle. There is actually a huge area right there, maybe GM considered that already???

I did the "Zed" style and love it. A muffler shop did it for $65. If you wanna do "Zed", don't buy a cutout. Have a muffler shop do it custom (it's cheaper that way). Minimal drone, and sounds great. It is not as loud as I thought it would be, but still sounds AWESOME when you get on it. Electric cutout is a MUST. Adjusting the noise from a switch in the ashtray is SWEEEEET!! I just wish it didn't take 4.5 secs to open it all the way.

"Zed" refers to what Canadians call the letter "Z". So totranslate he is saying "Z" Style.

as for my other post above V6toZ28, I would put two Cutouts on the Ypipe..One for each side.. has been done.. but again, I am not into that loud noise.. I prefer subtle speed..

hey guys my next mod is going to be the electric cutout. So far from this post i have gathered that i should put it on the intermediate pipe before the rear axel. I wanna go for performance so would this be the place to put it? How much louder will this make the car over a flowmaster muffler? Where do you guys reccommend buying it?
