Best Heads and Cam?
Best Heads and Cam?
I am doing some research on head and cam combos that work efficiently on the LS1's. Which heads seem to have the best results? What cam as well? I need to get an idea and a foundation somewhere. Hopefully you guys can give me tips.
Re: Best Heads and Cam?
how bout an easier question...
"what makes a perfect woman?"
your question is SO subjective it's not even funny.
how many miles do you drive? emissions? streetability? cost? durability? do you have the required bolt-ons? will your drivetrain support the power? drag? road race? street?
all these need to be factored in.
you can get 400rwhp from a cam/bolt-on car only...are you sure you need H/C?
with decent power you'll need a new clutch, or a new torque converter to take advantage of the powerband. how bout gears? will you make enough to abuse it enough to blow your rear end?
one of the most popular cams now for street driven cars is the TR224 cam, which have been getting 375hp solid at the wheels with stock heads. i've even heard this cam passing smog.
i'm currently running a bolt on car, cam only and making about 390hp at the wheels on a bad tune. a reasonable set of stage 2 heads would probably put me over 425 to the wheels.
is my setup streetable...for the most part. the cam is a bit choppy at idle and i have a stage 4 clutch which wouldn't work well in heavy traffic situations. but i don't drive much (live close to work and ride a bike) and i dont' have problems with rush hour traffic.
sounds like you need to do some research...alot of it. if nothing else give us more info.
but off the top of my head i would reccomend checking out www.thunderracing.com and checking out their head/cam packages.

Re: Best Heads and Cam?
didn't think lloyd was doing LS1s yet...
AFRs are $$$
i would just stick with a decent set of heads from one of the many sponsors and then match a cam to what power level you want.
i mean if all you want is 400...that's easy...but if you want 450...that's a bit harder

Re: Best Heads and Cam?
I personally would still spend the extra money on the afrs, you'll be able to make just as much power with a smaller cam or make more power with a larger cam. Plus they will have better lowend torque due to their smaller port size.
