Best Full Exhaust?

What would be the best full exhaust for a LS1. I want the most power you can get from a full exhaust setup. I want headers, mid-pipe, and cat-back. I also want true dual if I get more hp with it which I think I do. What headers, mid-pipe, and cat-back should I get? I want it to be LOUD as well. Thanks, Ryan

Grott style long tube headers with true duals using a X pipe for a cross over.

No other exhaust will make more power.

Eric
PS. my true duals using flowmaster (crappy) mufflers pulled the same trap speed (110 mph) as a open cutout in the I pipe. No dyno #'s yet... but do searches.

Alright, what cat-back, or do I get to pick that because I don't think cat-backs add that much power? Thanks, Ryan

ultimate hp gains from a simple to install catback...

hooker long tubes, mufflex Y pipe, and then a mufflex 4" catback exhaust...equal or more flow than alot of true duals without the clearance problems

And less weight compared to running 2 pipes. Plus you can run the SLP/ Double diamond type SFCs.

The single exhaust pipe mufflex flows best, but if you want the dual tail pipes, it flows well too. You'll have to build a moster engine before this system becomes too small. For most the 3.5" pipes will be more than enough.

Look at the Nov issue of GMHTP. The LS1/LT1 shootout. There are several of the cars running 11's w/ single 3" set ups. Just proof that you can run fast w/a single system.

There is more to an exhaust than free flow. It is my theory that a single pipe takes more advantage of the scavaging effect than a dual system. Thats why duals need an X or H pipe. That only affects the system from the X forward where as the single pipe will scavenge (or effectively pull the exhaust pulse behind it due to the low pressure created behind each pulse) for the entire length.

#1... I have no clearance issues whatsoever..

#2... my duals do not weigh as much as the ypipe.. i don't have exact weights.. but I picked both up while in the middle of assembly..

Is that comparing it w/out cats to a stock y pipe w/cats that goes all the way up to the stock manifold, or an aftermarket ORY made for headers??? Have to make a fair comparison.

Ok, so Hooker makes the best headers... I guess the real question is X pipe vs. Y pipe. I have an X pipe on my car now, and I love it, but its a Mustang. What setup would give me the most power, I just said I wanted true dual, but if I don't get as much power as I would with a Y pipe setup, then I want the Y pipe. If the Y pipe makes more power, who makes the best one? If an X pipe makes more power, who makes the best one? Thanks, Ryan

Compared to the mac ypipe on the mac midlengths.

And to answer camaro guy's question, go over to ls1.com and do a search, someone over there posted dyno graphs of his x vs y setups. the two setups made almost identical peak power, but the midrange was signifigantly higher in the x pipe.

Alright, well X pipe it is then. So I am going to get Hooker Long Tubes, so what shorty X pipe will fit on there with the Hooker LT's, don't you have to use Hookers X? Would the SLP Loudmouth sound good with that setup? Would it be as loud or louder than my setup on my mustang listed below? Thanks, Ryan

Nobody makes a universal x-pipe for LS1 headers. They have to be custom made.In the link I posted above, they make duals for your brand of header and then mail them to you for under $600.They are a proven shop, everyone in DFW seems to have their duals. If you didn't check the link, they hav sound clips also.PM me if you have any questions.

Is that $600 including highflow cats? I'm sure you'll need them to pass inpsection in Houston.

Can you still use a universal cat-back like a Loudmouth setup with that X-Pipe?

No, because it ceases to be a single set up.
