auto=3:73 or manual=4:10

there is a free mod you can do to your air intake use the search tool up top.

look into exhaust cut outs over a muffler. i have one for sale i'd take 35 shipped. you get more hp and its way cheaper. your car has 2 pipes coming off your stock exhaust manifolds. it then goes into a y pipe into one 3 inch until you get to the muffler. then 2 pipes out. the cut out goes on the 3 inch pipe and has 3 wingnuts you can take off and remove a plate that allows the exhaust to bypass the muffler.

chips are a waste of money imo. get gears and tires that hook up. the cut out and do all the free mods. thats where i would start

flowmaster barely flows better than stock, and is a waste of money.

You cannot get a "chip" for an LS1 engine.

Re: Best chip for my 98 z28

no kidding! I dont know how many times I have been in that arguement. LS1's cant be chipped but they can be programmed..

Your best bet is to not waste money on a programmer. they wont net you any real gains for the $300+ they will run you.
Your best best would be to look at your goals.

Yes goals. What do you want to do with the car?
Drag? Street? AutoX?

Set the car up specifically to meet your goals.

If you like drag, then tires, gear and suspension for off the line traction should be on the top of your list.

If you like autoX then tires and suspension that handle in turns will be crucial for you..

for the street, then you have to decide if you are going for looks or performance.. and if you are trying to be the fastest, dont. Its not possible. There is always someone faster. And at 16 you need much more driving experience under your belt. but think about what you really are looking at.. ask many many questions here and good luck.

Look at the vendors section on this site for decent parts/performance shops.

You can only reprogram your comp. with better settings, you cant swap out the chip. It is a good idea to buy somekind of reprogramer if you do get diff. gears to recaliburate your speedo. its best to have it professionally tuned but i dont see any programer being better than any other out there.

read the first 10 pages of this forum...than come back and ask us questions.

since you're 16 i suggest looking at anything that involves handling and BRAKING. so you don't wrap the thing around a tree.

these cars are a handfull to drive for some one use to 300hp...let alone someone who is new to driving let along power.

Re: Best chip for my 98 z28

Well first thing I did when I got my car was taking it down to this open area and seeing what it had. I also would do this if it was raining, to see when and how much gas it would take for my car to break lose, not much at all. IE I was going out this country road and this black Z was in front of me, older guy I would say around 40. He slammed it and took off and i was right behind him the whole way cruisin around 85. HE about lost it out through there and I had no problem staying right with him. I think some people just have a knack for driving and I think I am a pretty good driver for the short amount of time me driving and considering the car I own. I know my car is an auto and I have raced a 94 Z, 97 trans am, and a 98 cobra and won all of them. It doesnt take much skill to stomp the accelerator but owell. Draw your own conclusions. Thanks for the help to all of you though.

I don't drive like an idiot like you would think. Just down town if there is a Rustang next to me and you wouldn't want a Z to lose to a Rustang would you? hah

Yup, that's the spirit! As long as you are on a race track doing that.

Okay... Enough of that. There have been some good suggestions here already. Especially the one which suggested reading the first 10 pages. I'm not trying to be an *******, or anything.

Good luck!

So EVERY race has been on a race track for you. I am not trying to be a smartass but don't be a hypocrite about the whole situation. I also never said I was some badass driver, just said I thought I was pretty decent at driving also coming from someone who races stock cars and who is also about to get his nascar license so I will take his word for it and not from someone who is on here telling me I can't drive because I am 16.

Re: Best chip for my 98 z28

Forgot to also mention I will be racing stock cars soon, or I will be going down to get a time and having someone work with me so will that help my driving ability? Not being a smartass but I dont know if anyone races stock cars in here and if that would help me handle my car or what not.

Re: Best chip for my 98 z28

losing it on a wet country round can be totally dependant on tires. not to mention, he could have had more power and was spinning...instead of gripping like your car was.
