Belt Squeak

I have had a nightmare fo a time with my idler pulley. I have changed it 4 times, changed the tensioner pulley the belt and the generator bracket. Last time the dealer changed the pulley i started getting the squeak\chirp that is common on these idler pulleys. Also I am hearing a sound that sounds like a belt slipping when I first throttle. I have sinced changed the idler pulley again, chirp is gone but the belt squeak is still there. It almost looks like the idler pulley is rubbing agaisnt the generator bracket which may cause the pully to slow down. Or could it just be my AC belt which has never been changed? I am at 51,000 miles on my 99Z. Any ideas?

I've had the same noise, checked everything and finally exchanged the serpentine belt (18$ at Auto Zone).... noise was still there but not as bad....THEN the 2 dollar solution : BELT DRESSING from STP (Auto Zone).... get the six pack and keep a bottle in the trunk.... that's what I did... I spray the belt once a week and I never had to hear that squeeking again....

Belt dressing worked for me as a temporary solution, but it was very temporary. I was shooting that stuff all the time. It worked, just not for long. I broke down and got a new belt, voila.

check the hose clamps around the belt. I had the same problem, and it turned out to be a loose hose clamp leaking coolant onto the belt. If coolant drips on the belt, it will squeak forever and must be replaced. I haven't had a problem since.

i took mine in last may for the same noise and they ended up diagnosing my enging with piston slap and said my syncros were out on my tranny. So i got a new engine and trannny for a belt noise! But the new engine is making the same noise and it looks like the belt is semi rubbing against a bolt on the ac.

Try a Goodyear Gator belt. It grips much better and took care of my chirp. Good luck.
