Bad oil pressure reading.....

Ok. So i recently got a beater to drive back and forth to work so I could finally put the camaro back in storage. I began last week to take off everything, intake manifold, injectors, intake, valve covers, etc. After everything was spit polished, I put everything back on. Started it up today and had it fully warmed up, checking for leaks, etc. After everything was looking good, I got into the car and noticed the oil pressure guage reading past 80.... Did I hit something during the tear down?

Re: Bad oil pressure reading.....

I have a question also.. when I am idling after the engine is warm my oil pressure gauge bounces back and forth a little bit. I was wondering if it's just a loose gauge cable or if something is up with the pressure?

A bounching oil pressure gauge often means air in the oil. On an LS1 that would mean that the oil pump to oil pickup O-ring is bad and needs to be fixed.

But first put a manual oil pressure gauge on it to verify that it's not a gauge/sender problem.

If this is the case of the O ring, is it a serious problem and is it an easy fix?

Re: Bad oil pressure reading.....

to replace the o ring you have to drop the oil pan and take off the oil pick up tube, there will be an o ring on it, just slide it off and put a new one on. It is just getting tot he oil pan that is a little tricky.

as far as if the air in the oil is bad, if the o ring completely fails, then the you won't get any oil pressure at all.
