bad engine noise..

So after the cam/rocker install, I finally got it up and running. the problems were a broken oil pickup o ring, and bad crank position sensor. I've had it up and running for about 3 days now and last night on the way to the shop to give it a detail job, the throttle cut out abruptly and then it made a real bad constant knocking. I pulled the valve covers, and sure enough found a couple loose rockers, so I got those tightened up, but the noise remained. It didnt seem to change with RPM tho, so I revved it to 4k without the frequency of the knock increasing, which makes me think its not part of the rotating assembly. Do you think its something loose with the clutch/flywheel?

It seems like you've been having bad luck with your do-it-yourself build. If you're having so many problems with setting lash due to aftermarket rockers, I'd suggest going back to the stock ones so that you don't have to mess with all of that...

It's hard to diagnose a "knocking problem" without hearing it. Maybe you can get a vid of it?

Did you check to see if any of the pushrods were bent ? That would cause it to make noises like you described .

well I dont think it could be a pushrod, or I'll be mad at futral. I just bought them and there's probably only ~50 miles on everything new I put in. But then again, If I had that additional ~.050" of clearance on those rockers it could have bent the pushrod. I'll check for that asap.

I'll try to make it out to the shop tonight to make a video. Needless to say I left it there.

I'm pretty sure its a bearing or something along those lines on a connecting rod. Can anyone confirm?

How much time is it going to take to fix this myself do ya think?

That sounds seriously ****ed. Start pulling the valvetrain apart and make sure nothing is broken. It really sounds like something in the bottom-end. Probably a spun bearing and rod knock due to your oiling problem woes before.

I would advise against any more solo projects

Do you notice that when you rev it the noise goes quieter then gets worse on the decel?? That's typical of worn or worn out rod bearings.

A spun bearing in the rotating assembly will deffinetly change with rpm! So if it's not changing with RPM, that's not your problem. If you lost a bearing, you'll probably also have tiny silver flakes in your oil, so check that out.

Sounds like the dreaded spun bearing. I have seen many videos and yours is exactly what there's sounded like. Sorry Hopefully not

Crap didn't hear that video...
That's a spun bearing, I'm almost 100% sure of it. Check the oil for metal flakes, if your oil looks like metallic black paint, youre in for a bottom end rebuild my friend.

Yeah I figured that was the case. Abd sorry i havent been keeping up on the replies, xmas has been a pain, then I just got over some horrible food poisoning..

Before the cam/ valvetrain install it was clanking around like this (but not nearly as loud), but my friends and I decided it was probably a bent pushrod. Then when I got everything installed and running again, I couldn't make out any weird noises so I thought it must have been a slightly bent pushrod and was now fixed. Sounds like it was just waiting to go out on me and finally bit the dust..

Is there a guide or write-up to removing the front support and getting to the bottom end?
