back up lights

i have a 2002 Z-28 i took it out yesterday for a drive, when i came home later that night backing up to the garage door, i noticed i had no back up lights.........checked the fuses. also took both lights out to check them and the fillaments were fine, here in maine we have to have our cars inspected, and if these lights do not work , well you get the picture.......anything im missing i believe ive checked the obvious, all other lights work brake, directionals, anybody got an idea, cant be anything too serious its a brand new frieken car!

Well, first of all it's still under warranty so your dealer will fix it for nothing, that said,I had the same thing happen to my 1984 Camaro and it turned out that they became unplugged at a connection somewhere near the back seat area. They fixed it and it happened again about 6 months latter so they fixed it again and secured the connection so it wouln't happen again.Something must've not been snapping in and locking securely which is why it happened twice so make sure you tell them to check that it won't come loose again

Is it an automatic? If so .... might want to check out the "neutral safety switch".... this can be checked out by simply putting the car in neutral and trying to start it... if it doesnt start.....then that is more than likley your problem.

I should elaborate about the "neutral safety switch" ... it is located on the base of gear shifter so you will have to take off the shifter plate to access it... (if indeed that is the problem) ...anyways... I had a problem just like yours with the '86 Camaro... we checked everything that you did... so we looked for answers and saw the possibility of the "neutral safety switch" .... which basically allows you to start your car in the neutral gear... and also allows the back up lights to come on when it is in the reverse gear.... so we tested it by putting the car in neutral and attempting to start it... we attempted but the car did not start... so we then speculated that the switch was either bad or it was misaligned ....we attempted to align it but no luck what so ever.... so we proceeded to buy a new safety switch at a local auto store... switched the switches... aligned it right... tested it out.... it started in neutral ...and the back up lights were functional again.... sorry about my first post..... i shoulda elaborated alot more than i did. Hope you get the problem straighten out.

looking at the filament in the bulb cannot always be the way to tell...i had a bulb it looked perfect and it dint work....but since both of them you looked at seem good i would go with that switch idea
