Anyone heard of this intake? Any idea about it?

I saw this one on eBay. For the price I considered getting it to try it out and post back my opinion and my shops opinion. For what the LS6 intakes are going for I could easily resell it or just give it to my brother who's got an LS1 intake.

What do you guys think of it?

I didn't do a search because I'm not even sure of what make it is. I'm also wondering about the throttle body for it. It says 85mm but where do I get one and what is the stock tb opening?

I figured out from ls1tech that it's a Typhoon Intake made by Professional Products. There is over 15 pages worth of posts about these in two threads that I found and from the dyno graph, compared to the LS6 it was just about the same. I read some good and some bad and that there were some design flaws with it at first but that they have been addressed. The people from Professional Products and BYUNSPEED (byunspeed.com) that sells them are both on the ls1tech.com site. We've been trying to get my brother in law an LS6 Intake but the last couple on eBay have gone for over $350. I think I'm going to sell him mine and give this one a shot. If it doesn't work out I'll just add more power and get a Fast 90/90 like my shop recommended I spring for. I plan on buying his (my mechanic) former ST Turbo setup from him and putting on my car next winter since he went to a custom Turbo setup. I'll post up what we think about it over here when it's done. I'm just very curious now after spending 2+ hours reading posts about it on ls1tech.com. I may end up referencing this post and saying what a waste of money but then again it might work out. Consider me a guinea pig for CamaroZ28.com.

The only nice thing about the PP intake is the larger TB openings. Other than that, it is pretty much the same as a Weiand/Holley... I'd rather save the money for a FAST set-up.

I'd rather have a stock LS6 intake manifold.

I just purchased it. Intake, 85mm tb, and fuel regulator (because I have a 98) .. $673 shipped to Buffalo, NY. In my opinion that's a smokin deal if it's comparable to the others. I would have had to get the fuel regulator anyway from what I've read so really it's a $600 package. I can sell my intake to my brother for $350 and now I don't need to get my tb ported$ $75 so that's $425 towards the $600, $175 to try it out and see how I like it. Sounds good to me. Like I said, to me it's only $175 more than what I have invested and would have spent and if it doesn't work the way I want, Fast 90/90 might be the way I go.

Interesting, but your math doesn't work out.

It only costs you $175 if you keep it.

However, if you end up getting rid of it, you'll have to pay full price for a Fast 90/90, and you can't apply any of the $425 towards that purchase. You can sell this manifold, but you'll be out any money lost in the transaction (i.e. you typically can't sell it for as much as you paid for it).

And if people are paying attention, they'll figure out that it didn't work for you, and they'll be smart enough not to buy it.

If it doesn't work I wouldn't resell it anyway. I hate the idea of screwing someone and I can't live with myself if I do. If I get a part and it's a piece of crap, I hang it on the wall of the garage as a reminder to myself that it was a piece of crap but looked nice or else I'll just give it away if someone wants to try it and if it works for them and they want to give me something for it if it works for them then fine, if not then no big deal. We are on the hunt for another LS6 intake anyway for my brother so he's paying for the one I have so I'll still have $673 invested in this, by the $175 I meant it's only that much more than what I already have invested, not really $175 total. I wasn't completely sure about the LS6 intake when I got it and was contemplating the Fast 90/90 because of future plans but it's just too damn expensive at this point. I like getting things and trying them out even if it's costs me some money just so I can give an opinion on how it works. We have a local fbody club here and we like to get things and compare. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. I can't give an opinion one way or another about this setup yet. I'm very open minded and I read all the posts I can find about them so I know it may not be the best investment but based on the posts it also might be a great investment. Time will tell.

Good for you! I'm the same way, and I wish more people were like that.
