Anyone Dynamatted their car?

My damn SS rattles more than my 95 Convertible does. I do have the stock exhaust still, so thats why some of the rattles are even audible (LT's, H-pipe, 2 chamber flows and dumps on the 'vert ) but nevertheless, they still **** me off. I get dynamat really cheap from work, do you think its worth it to dynamat the car? I mean the WHOLE car. Thanks guys

It's gonna add a few extra pounds, but it shouldn't be anything too serious. You planning on doing it yourself??

yeah, I'm gonna try doing it myself. I work at Best Buy, so I get the stuff dirt cheap. I might have a buddy from the install bay help me. I've taken my interior apart in my 94 and my 95 many times, a 99 shouldn't be too different. The passenger side door panel pisses me off though... never goes back on right. I'm not too worried about the extra weight, as long as it doesnt make my car noticeable slower. I can always do some free mods to make up for it since the only thing I have done other than suspension stuff is a whisper lid.

Just take out the spare tire and jack, that will more than make up for what your adding with the dynamat. I took mine out because come on.. like I'm really gonna put that stupid little donut thing on and try to drive my car with it. We have cell phones now, spare tires are outdated.

Mike,
Sorry to hear about your "rattles". A SFC should help if it's not too late for some of those rattles. Also, may be worth crawling under there and checking the bushings, etc on the exhaust system supports to see if some/all need replacing. Also, check clearances from body and the frame of the exhaust system. Some sections could be hitting body or frame while driving.

Re: DynaMat... I recently used it on a '59 truck I am rodding. Good ol' American steel. No plastic parts, etc. So while the interior was bare, the motor made the inside quite loud to say the least. I put DynaMat EVERYWHERE on the inside: doors, headliner, floor boards, firewall... everywhere!. Then I had it covered over in Rod Doors' ABS plastic panels and upholstered throughout. Well, I'm here to tell you that the DynaMat helped substantially. It is still "throaty" inside the cab of the truck, but that's due to the engine mod's, so I guess I'll never have a "whisper-quiet" interior. But, the DynaMat definitely helped a lot.

Regards,
Daryl

Thanks for the feedback! I'm already planning on SFC's. I got the KBDD's on the vert, they helped a ton I figure I might as well get them for the SS. I want to cut down on road noise more too, so I'm just going to mat the whole car. It should help.

Does Best Buy do the actual applications themselves or is it just a friend of yours that his a tech there. I too am having a hard time with the extra noise (maybe just getting too old), but it is loud enough to warrant quieting it down a bit. Thanks

Best buy does install this stuff, but I had some time off yesterday to do it, so I went ahead and did the doors and the quarters, and I ordered some Kenny Brown DD's for it since Thunder racing is having that big sale. I haven't driven it yet, (finished at 4am, too tired to drive) and I'm off to work now. I give you a report later. BTW, I used the Dynamat extreme, WAY easier to apply than the old stuff!!

Thanks for the reply. Yoiu don't happen to work in MN do you? BTW, I was told that there is almost nothing as far as SFC's I can do for my vert because they pretty much come with all you need or the other products out there for non-verts won't fit. What product number is the KBDD?

Hey, here are some KB's that will fit your '02. I have these EXACT same ones on my 1995 right now, and I LOVE them. My 95 feels stiffer than the SS. At least until I get my KBDD's installed on that one too. Here's the part number. Call Thunder Racing, ask for Chris or Angie, tell them Mike sent you, and here's the part number for your convertible: 22-19104 They are awesome, well worth it. Designed specifically for convertibles.

By the way, I'm in Michigan.

Also... Yes the Dynamat did help, I'm going to re do part of it later tonight, and hopefully I will notice a bigger difference with the SFC's

No, I was just one of the first to join and they did not have registration dates way back then. I think it does that by default for the ones of us that joined back in the dinosaur ages.
