Anyone done this and kept it?
Anyone done this and kept it?
I have heard of a few people cutting off their muffler and keeping their cats only. Anyone here do this and notice any improvement ? Anybody still do this or use that setup?
Umm that basically sounds like a cutout without the ability to go quiet when you want to. If I understand you correctly then what I did is very similair to what you described.
I had an exhaust shop cut out my muffler and discard it. Then I had them fab some pipes in it's place just to keep the dual exit exhaust continuity. Then I had them put a 12" bullet muffler in the I-pipe right behind the rear axel.
If I understood your post then you would be doing the same thing minus adding the bullet muffler. I can tell you that the bullet does very little to quiet the car down. It's not a real muffler (looks like a piece of slightly wider then normal exhaust pipe) but it does help refine the sound a bit. I have heard of people doing straight pipes with no muffler. As long as you keep your cats it'll sound ok and not so loud you can't hear yourself think.
So people have done it. With cats it's not a bad deal and you'll gain about 8 horses over a stock setup I think. But for $36 I'd consider getting the dynomax bullet race muffler like I did and do the Dynomouth.
Or just get an electric cutout and go from loud to stock quiet with the flip of a switch anytime you want.
Good Luck
