Question Anybody else have a hard time getting into 1st or Reverse?(M6)

Ever since my car had about 1200 miles it has been difficult to get into 1st or reverse from a stop. I have to jiggle the shifter a bit in neutral then it will go in. It goes into 1st with no problem when going like 5mph but not when stopped. It says to release and engage the clutch again in the manual but that doesn't do anything. It also feels kind of rough while shifting into other gears sometimes. Is this normal or is my tranny messed up? The car only has 4700 miles. It did this with the factory Hurst and the B&M.

Synchros probably, you might also want to look into getting a steel 3-4 shift fork instaled. But take it in and don't let the dealer tell you nothing is wrong! Because there is.
Thats what is wrong with my car, Im puting in a new clutch and tranny. (3rd tranny)

Agreed .... it sounds like your syncros are flaking out.

With the symptoms that you describe, the dealer will send a tech out for a test drive. Insist on riding with him and don't let him go back to the dealership until he duplicates the problem.

If he can't duplicate it, then swap with him .... you drive and let him ride.

Hey do you have the stock shifter in there?? I had it happen to me like once or twice it wouldnt go into first easy when i was at a stop. Put a hurst in this weekend and shifting is MUCH MUCH better. Maybe you should get a new shifter.

Yeah I had that problem along with a slew of other M6 related problems in my car ... I ended up with a total rebuld at 3000 miles... turned out to be miscut gears.

Now 15000 miles later my 3->2 isnt so hot, and it is occasionally balky going into first. GM will be getting my car back again right before she goes away for the winter.

Well, I had the same problem in my 95. The clutch was not totally disengaging. I got it on a lift, put it in first, and the tires spun with the clutch on the floor. The day after that, I heard a pop and my cluth went to the floor (broken clutch fork).
Guess that's why it didn't disengage.
I know the 98+ clutches work kinda backwards from the earlier ones, but the transmission will still be hard to put in 1st and Reverse if the clutch doesn't disengage all the way.

what I do if that happens is put the shifter back to neutral, let the clutch out, give the engine a small rev, clutch back in, and it will go into first easily, I'm assuming because the gears in the tranny are spinning faster or something. It doesn't happen to me often though.
