Any of you descreening the MAF?

I did it on both of my LT1 cars and never had a problem with the contacts getting dirty or anything like that. So how about on the LS1? Let me know what you think. Thanks

Performed it on christmas eve, and I havent had any problems since. Car started to run rich, then two days later, ran lean, so i reset the PCM, and it corrected itself.

is it really worth to tinker with it? anyone gotten a noticable gain? I don't think discreening would make a big difference that it's worth to perform. bigger maf yes, but disscreen no.

You start off by taking the MAF out of the bellows and lid, to where you are holding just the MAF in your hand. Then I have just poked at the edges of the screen with a flat edge screwdriver until it pops out. It might take awhile, depending on how stuck it is in there. A lot of people will criticize the way I have described, but it has worked fine in the past.

We used to see very favorable gains with LT1's.. 3-4 rwhp for a free mod that took 15 minutes. This car is my first LS1 car though, so I had to ask if anybody else is doing it and apparently they are.

Do it.

Had mine de-screened and ported for a few years. Never had any noticeable problems with stuff getting caught on the MAF wires which the screen would have prevented.

But after getting autotap and reading about how to tune the car, it became more apparent to me (for my application) that I wanted to revert to a complete stock MAF to make tuning easier. I personally don't think the long term gains are worth the miniscule gains you may receive from leaning out the AF ratio.

3-4RWHP on the dyno is common tolerance with no change in mods, I don't see how anyone can attribute that to any kind of mod, much less the screen.
