Talking Any tricks to taking out the gauge cluster ??

I am gonna swap out the gauge cluster for another reman one - I have not been happy w/ the readings since I had the trip meter problem fixed.

(MY '99 specialty )

Anyway, I wondered if there were tricks I should be aware of - disconnect the battery, look out for it hanging up on this, here's how it is easiest to disconnect the wiring, etc. etc. !

Thanks !!

Britt

I just dropped you an email on the cluster removal process. You may want to have Autocraft (Harwin and Beltway - 713-981-5700) check out your cluster before you replace it.

Autocraft is a huge place that does authorized Delco repairs for speedometers. They may be able to check out your unit and calibrate it cheaper than getting a replacement.

Good luck.

You hit the nail on the head w/ that one - I have been talking to Pat over there.

Even if the dealer was not interested in my complaints, Pat was - he says he would swap it out under warranty for $ 45.00 if he does the R & R - free if I do it !!

I figure I can pull a gauge cluster as well as the next man !!

I'll keep an eye out for that e-mail - it hasn't come thru just yet.

'Preciate it !!

Pat also helped me out (lost the darn odometer reset rod). I keeping getting rejects on your email address (filtered???), so here goes my "throw down" instructions:

1. Remove the panel under the steering wheel ( 4 screws and two plastic push in screws)
2. Remove the “V” shaped bracket under the steering column (2 nuts)
3. Remove the 2 nuts holding the steering column. The steering column will now easily lower a few inches
4. Tilt the wheel down and remove the tilt lever
5. Remove the 2 screws holding the black plastic around the instruments and pull out the entire piece.
6. Remove the 4 screws holding the instrument cluster
7. Pull out the cluster and tilt the cluster a bit when you are taking it out.
