Another newbie question

I’ve been driving my 02 SS for a few days now, and obviously noticed the "skip shift" light that comes on. My question is:
Does that system do more than just put up a light? I.E. Does it actually affect your shifting ability?

I ask this question because it seems like I have trouble getting into 2nd gear A LOT. My only other option is that I have not learned the new tranny style yet.

Thanks for the help,
-Kinyu

The skip shift light comes on, and simutaneously, you are locked out of 2nd gear and prompted into 4th. If you read the owner's manual, it states that this achieves maximum gas mileage....those of us that own M6 mostly find it a huge nuisance.

how were you screwed out of an owners manual. Go to the service department and you should be able to order one without a problem. If you bought the car new and didn't get one, demand they give you one free of charge. If bought used, may have to pay for one. Enjoy the car. Oh, the skip shift does suck and you can buy a part to defeat it so you can choose your gear whenever you want. Or just step on the gas harder.

You'll want the skip shift eliminator the first time you pull into an intersection slowly, then realize you accidently pulled into the path of a fast moving car, hit the gas to go only to realize that you just shifted into FOURTH AT 15 MPH, NOT SECOND AS YOU SHOULD HAVE. The engine will bog for a few ticks until the revs build to about 1500. HOPEFULLY you won't be T-Boned in the process. The next words out of your mouth will be " Golly, I wish I had installed that part so I could shift this car the way God intended instead of having that darned thing make me go into 4th!" (or words to that effect)

Here's the link. SLP sells the plug in art for $30, and it takes 5 minutes to install .......

Skip shift is the worst thing ever. You have to be going around 17-20 MPH for it to let you shift into second or have the throttle pressed more than 50 percent or something. I usually try to do this, but if im not paying attention, and skip shift gets me, I just leave it in neutral for a second, then you can shift into second.

And as for you not getting an owners manual, dont put up with that ****. ESPECIALLY if you bought it brand new. No excuse. Go back and get it. Mine has come in handy on more than one occassion, and those illustrations saying what to do and not do are absolutely halarious.

"Whatever you do, dont drive your car without gas!!!!!!@!@#!@#@$$$!!!!!"

Thanks for the link and advice. I believe the skip shift eliminator will be my first purchase. What an idiotic thing to put in this type of car, but I guess that is just an opinion. I went to the dealer and told them I was going to hold my down payment check until I got my book. As luck would have it, one popped up.
