All Borla owners in here please

Ok, I took off my SLP exhaust yesterday, not Loudmouth but the other one that came with my car, and I put on a Borla. I have the cutout open(no plates0 and I think it sounds real weak and nowhere near as loud or as mean as I hoped and have heard from Borla before. I'm confused as to why this is and the only thing i can think of is that it's because I kept my center dual exhaust tips? anyway, I really think it sounds way to weak, its also so quiet in the car.

Question You got me on that one !

My Borla is plenty loud, even w/ the smallest restrictor plate in place.

To each their own, but the cars I had the pelasure of test driving w/ the center exhaust sounded great to my ears - I would not have messed w/ 'em.

Are you using the Borla muffler ?

How did that mount up to the center exit exhaust ?

Question Are you sure that baffle plate is out ?

Maybe a dumb question, but where the triangle flange is that is held in place by 3 bolts - that is where it would go.

Just making sure ...

Since the only experience I have had w/ a Borla is using the intercooled tips, perhaps the extra length of pipe & turns to go thru the center mount are choking it down.

BTW -

Congrats on owning one of the best looking SS's made, IMHO !

I really like the SOM cars as well - makes my Pewter seem so boring !

from what i've seen from the center dual exhaust tips on the SS, the piping is relatively small, especially compared to how large the piping is for borla all the way through to the tips. can you tell if the piping had to be reduced to work with the CME? cuz that, in itself, might change how the exhaust sounds.

If your car doesn't sound like this, then it's most likely that center exhaust choking your system. I made that vid before removing the cats. Now my car (with stock manifolds) is just about as loud as my friends 99 with SLP LT's and loudmouth exhaust. So, there's no way its Borla's fault.

If you removed a Dual Dual exhaust for the Borla I would be surprised if you gained anything but an increase in sound. The Dual Dual is an extremely free-flowing catback.

Are you going to install headers? If you do and choose to remove the cats then it will get A LOT louder. I personally don't like the Borla on a LS1. My 1998 Z28 has a Borla only because I already had it from when I bought my SS in 1999. I bought a Borla for my 99 SS and didn't like it but I hung on to it after I swapped in the SLP Loudmouth. I bought my 1998 Z28 used a few years ago and it had a Flowmaster on it so I had my old Borla put on it. Sounded better then the Flowmaster thats for sure.
