Air box cutout on LS1.com
Air box cutout on LS1.com
Hi everyone,
Has anyone tried the air box cutout mod on LS1.com where you cut out the piece of plastic between the radiator top and airbox bottom and trim the airbox bottom to get more airflow? I have an SLP lid that I am putting on and I was going to do this while I had it apart if it does any good. Any thought on this is appreciated.
Also, I clay barred my SS this weekend and could not believe what a difference it made!! Thanks to everyone on this site who gives input on cleaning and detailing.

What your are talking about is the "free ram air" mod, also found on Install university. I just did this over the weekend on my '02 Z. I still have stock air box and DEFINITELY noticed a difference. The main thing I noticed is much more response (i.e. pickup and torque) at the low end. I already have decent end power from a cutout, but it kinda robbed the lower power to do it. Now it feels like a uniform power curve throughout the RPM range. I don't have any numbers to back this up, but the car is most certainly "breathing" MUCH better. I'm waiting to pick up a lid and filter before I go to the strips again. Next on the list, the free MAFH mod.
i did the free ram air mod from installuniversity.com a few weeks ago aswell. i noticed more of a diference from it then i did from my cat-back. one thing that i did differnt then installuniversity.com was to remove the upper radiator shrowd, rather then cut it. it s only held on by some plastic clips, so it takes about 5 seconds to remove, and reinstall later, like when you have some warrenty work to do.
good luck and happy modding
