Question Air Box Base

Is the Air Box Base on a Z/28 the same as an SS? The reason I am asking is because I am purchasing a SS hood, and I want to make it functional. What would I need to purchase to make it work other than the screen and rubber seal that goes around the air box?

The air box and (non SLP) lid are the same, there is just a little rubber piece that goes where the air comes into the intake. The rubber piece just goes on the bottom to help more air flow in, it's not completely sealed. That is how SSs come stock.

I don't believe there is a intake that will completely seal to a 98-02 SS hood.

Yeah, the Ram Air Trans Ams do have a larger base. My friend just bought a Ram Air hood for his and he bought the larger base for it for more air flow.

The WS6's do, but I'm pretty sure the Firehawk's DO NOT. I have a buddy with an 02, and he has the same smaller one as my TA. And I doubt he'd switch in a smaller one.

Actually, it makes sense, because if you look at the two hoods, the WS6 sits up higher, like it's just "slapped on", where as the Firehawk hood is molded into the lines and "flows" with the body.

Not sure about that. I think it sits about an inch and a half higher than the regular one. So take a block or somethng about that width and set it on your lid, underneath the lowest part of your hood (not sure about SS's) Then gently close your hood, and if it doesn't hit, you'll be fine.

Nope...if you raise the lid too much, the hood won't shut. I raised the lid using a couple of washers underneath the air box base. Anything over two washers made the lid come in contact with the hood and it wouldn't shut right.
