AHH! might have messed something up...

Okay..well, there's these kids who were makin fun of my car (in a good mannered kinda way..) saying that it couldnt "peel the tires" since it was an automatic..well i saw them down by there house today, they started with there BS again..so as i was leaving, i got it a little sideways. (I had my hand on the shifter for some reason)..as i was straightening it back out, i accidently pushed the shifter into neutral, almost instantly as i was stepping on the gas again..i heard it rev like crazy...i backed off and looked down instantly, and *i think* the tach was around 5, maybe 5.5, but it was coming down..so im not really sure how high it revved (it happened so quickly and i wasnt expecting it) I'm trying to remember..and i dont think it hit the rev limiter..but either way, i'm a little worried i might have caused some damage..It still sounds the same..and it still runs the same...no weird ticking/clunking noises..So should i listen for anything that might "pop up" within the next few days if i damaged anything?? Or should i just not worry about it?? It just seemed so unnatural, and so not good..haha...sorry if i sound a little obsessed with my car..i just dont wanna screw anything up...Thanks for any help, or reassurance..haha..

I've gone that a couple times on purpose at lower RPM's and no problems...lol

People say don't rev in neutral, but look at how many people actually do and nothing happends...

Even if he did hit the hit the rev limiter isnt that what its there for, to stop the engine from over reving? I mean if I hit 120 mph it hits the speed limiter and sounds exactly the same and the rpm's are around 4,000. After the header install I hit the rev limiter a few times trying to get used to the new power and everything still looks, sounds, and feels fine.

The rev limiter is there to protect the motor. And you'd know if you hit it. It's very unmistakable.

You probalby need a new engine. The car isn't worth much anymore, I'll take it off your hands for $500.

Ahh **** i was afraid of that!...whats your address?? I'll ship it first thing in the morning! ..But alright seriously, thanks for the help guys..i guess i kinda over-reacted a little. It scared the **** outta me when it happened, i didnt know what was goin on, my first thought was either the tranny, or the rear let go..than i realized that my genius self slipped the damn thing into neutral!..i know i know..i'm a dumbass.. I was scared i might have bent a pushrod, or something..But she's still running fine! (knock on wood)..Thanks again!

Of course, you realize that they are *really* going to make fun of you now. (I know I would)

lmao...yea you think they would...but to be honest with you, they had no idea what was going on..they probably thought i was pushing the clutch in on my automatic or something...these kids are that stupid..honestly..(even though after this little incident i cant say much for being stupid ..) They probably thought i was just revving it up to show it off (well thats what i'll tell them if they ask anyways! )
