i am going to do a break job on my 98 z28 and am contemplating using after market rotors and pads, the stock rotors are warped and shake when i am slowing down on the highway. so i figured that i would just replace everything, does anyone have any suggestions on a nice set of drilled rotors, there are dealers selling sets from 160-300 for all 4 on ebay, is there anything to steer away from when buying rotors that are aftermarket, i really don't want to spend a ton but i want the job done right. also any suggestions for brake pads?

I went with the Powerslot rotors and I think they look pretty sweet. I wanted to stay away from the cross-drilled rotors because they have a tendency to crack in the long run. I've put some miles on the rotors over the past 2 years and they're still in great shape as far as I can tell. But, if you want a good set of cross-drilled rotors...the Brembos (Eradispeed) are the ones to get. Only problem is, they're expensive $$$.

 

I also went with Powerslots all around & Hawk HPS pads. I was going to get the Baer Eradispeeds but some poeple have cracked them due to the cross drilling. I am hard on my brakes so I didn't want to push it. I would recommend the Powerslots.

 

Don't bother getting drilled rotors. Just get a nice set of KVR rotor blanks at http://www.fasttoys.net They will last a long time and are of very good quality. They are reasonably priced as well.

I would stay away from drilled rotors also. They are meant for racing applications and keep cool under constant braking applications. But they provide less surface area, therefore take longer to stop. For street applications I would stick with full surface rotors.

 

I have had bad luck with KVR blanks cracking under hard use.

I have found that Aimco rotors from AutoZone hold up considerably better than KVR's, and cost ~$39 each.

I am also using Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads from AZ since you can't beat the lifetime warranty. Sufficient enough for everyday driving and don't dust too much (I'm washing my car once a week, so dust build-up will not be a problem for me).

What brake pads do you recommend buying along with the autozone rotors? I'd like pads with little brake dust and can hold up to high speed braking.

 

I'm running a great setup!

Aimco rotors from AutoZone, and Raybestos ceramic pads from CarQuest.

The ceramic pads have amost no brake dust and zero squeal. Plus, they have a lifetime warranty, so I never have to pay for pads again.

I've never had a single problem with my setup, and I don't have to scrub my wheels any more.
