Aftermarket LS2 Cams
Aftermarket LS2 Cams
I did some searching on the site and couldn't find to much information on some aftermarket LS2 cam setups.
Just basically looking for what kinda power they're making on cam only LS2 GTOs. My friend is looking for some extra power, but i'm having problems finding results on LS2 cam only cars.
He drives it everyday, but an aggressive cam really isn't an issue unless the car stalls at idle at surges like crazy in any gear at 1500 rpms!
Think anyone can give me some numbers, suggestions, prices... anything?

aren't the heads similar to the ls6 heads??
so basically the cams will react similar to a cam in an ls1/ls6
more power with good drivability...TR224

Re: Aftermarket LS2 Cams
pretty violent from what i hear on ls1's. You should get a little better drivability out of the LS2 though. What are you looking for in a HP increase? My advice is always call 2 or 3 cam companies before buying. Call Futral at least and maybe ask him about their cams opposed to the Trex
Re: Aftermarket LS2 Cams
someplace i saw a video of a GTO running the TRex throught a stock exhaust.
it was just as harsh as the LS1s that i've heard it in.
i don't think those few extra cubes tone it down at all. maybe in a 383 or 396.

Re: Aftermarket LS2 Cams
the cams for an LS1 and LS2 are the same, you would see a little more performance from the same cam in an LS2 just from the extra cubes, cam selection is based on a lot of things, size of engine, use of car, M6 or A4, gear ratio out back, etc.
In a mostly street driven GTO I would suggest a cam something like a 224/228 .581/.585 114LSA+2, it would provide a nice power increase and be very streetable.
Based on your post about 1500rpm and such, I would not get anything like the T-Rex, it is not considered streetable by a lot of people. Just my .02

Re: Aftermarket LS2 Cams
not sure if the 224/228 would yield...but even on the ls2 i'm not sure you'd hit 400rwhp. close...but not quite. would really depend on what other supporting mods the car has.
as for the torquer. i have the first version of the cam (233/233 .589") and am pretty happy with it.
i was disappointed with the initial dyno results, but there were some issues with the car that i think affected that number. had those not existed i think it would have made my goal of 390-400rwhp that i had.
with some of the upgrades i've done since i'm confident that i've made or exceeded the 400rwhp goal. but i have yet to redyno it.

I'll suggest something more of the HPE-c cam 232/236 590 lift 112 LSA. I would suggest the cam I'm using but unless you live in Az or want to drive down here to have it installed your out of luck on it.
Then of course you are going to need a CAI, LT's, no cats, stock exhaust is ok if he wants to leave it and dyno tune.

I don't really know what RWHP the car is making, never really cared much for dyno #'s... I would say around 430RWHP and 385RWTQ. I know the first guy to get the same set up I have made 421RWHP & 375RWTQ (automatic) with the same cam, LT's, high flow cats, Magnaflow catback, K&N CAI, FAST 90 and 3600 Vig stall. The M6's with same mods have been making on adv 440-445RWHP & 400-410RWTQ. All tunes with 91 octane and 25 degrees of timing.
As far as a clutch I would suggest a spec 3 IMO.
