After one week of ownership, car dies on hi-way....

so im on rt 78 in jersey headin to englishtown, im in 6th gear doin 70mph when all of a sudden everything goes out... the car stalls right in the middle of driving. so i quick pull over and try crankin it... the starter turns, but nothin else happens. i have good voltage from the battery, but it really sounds like there is no fuel goin to the engine. could the fuel pump have just died in the middle of the driving?

also i filled the tank (with 93) right before we left, and the guage was registering below E when the key was in the "on" position... any thoughts?

Edit: also my car is bone stock (with 25k on the clock)

Usually when I hear of people's cars dying on the hwy it ends up being their alternators. Same thing happened to my mom not long ago, it just died without warning... This happened twice to her however, same thing as you tho - no warning and would not start back up. The first time it was the alternator. The second time it was the fuel pump.

Just guessing...but sure sounds fuel related since you just stopped for gas. Can you hear the pump when you turn the key on? If not might be a fuse or the pump relay. Could also be a clogged filter if you got some bad stuff. First thing I'd do is check the fuel pressure with a guage - should be around 58 PSI. Scan for any DTC codes too. Again, I'm just guessing, trying to give you some ideas.

well they finally got a chance to look at it today. Apparently there was a short in the main harness, and when they started movin stuff around it went to an open. so now its only a matter of finding the right wire... is this a common thing or the first u guys have heard of it?

It is probably the sending unit wire and it probably blew the pump fuse. If it was full and it regestered E there is something wrong with the sending unit
