Question ? about 6L

my buddy has a LS1 6-speed T/A that is a freak. It ran a 12.8 with 4.10s, lid, K&N, and a flowmaster muffler

He recently bought a 6L engine and 5.3L heads
I think he is goin to bore the 6L block .060 over and port the heads, and forged internals.

I'm kind of skeptical about him doing this as his car runs so good now.

Has anyone done this before? What were the hp and tq results or track times?

i wouldnt say thats a freak...it runs very well but it runs about what it should for the mods with good driving...

this is a freak...

02 WS6 M6 fully optioned, full weight, only mods are a lid, loudmouth, nittos and a pulled front swaybar....

12.38@113 mph......(yes 12.THREE EIGHT)

i wouldnt believe if the car didnt belong to my friend and i watched him make the pass...

tell me about it...i was running 13.30s with those mods...

and about ruining a good thing...ill agree with that and here's why....

this friend of mine with the 12.30 TA just did heads and cam a few weeks ago....3 days after the car was finished he collapsed a lifter for no apparant reason. the lifter wedged itself into the lifter bore, wasted the cam and effectively killed the motor....that car which ran 12.30s with almost no mods is now sitting in front of his house with a dead motor...

I think he plans on selling it to a guy with a 94 LT1 convertible, should be an improvement for that guy.

Well, I don't think you're going to get many answers.

Not many people (AFAIK) buy a 6.0L block just to bore it .060 over. People are going with the 6.0L block when they want to go big cubes (400+)...IOW, stroker.

IMO, your buddy swapping in a 6L block is completely pointless...and the forged internals too, if he's going to stay N/A.

For just the usual H/C + bolt-ons...the stock block and internals should hold up just fine.

This guy likes nitrous, he was running a dual-stage wet 150 shot, first stage 75, 2nd 75 until it backfired through the manifold.
He might be doing more to it, I just remembered the boring .060 over and forged, I'll ask him about it next time I see him.

I suspect that if he's going with forged internals, that he is going to stroke it ... it doesn't cost anymore for a forged stroker crank than it does a stock stoke forged crank.

My math comes up with a 415 CI motor with a 4.0 crank and a 4.06 bore ... depending on tuning, cam and the rest of the set up he should be seeing some serious hp/torque in the 500 range N/A.

ETs are going to depend on his supension set up, weight and his ablity to tune his suspension for track conditions ... but he should be seeing solid high tens N/A ...

he will need to have the block sonic checked before he bores it to .060 over as that is the extreme limit of the boring of an iron block. stick with .030 over and stroke it to a 4.00 crank and build a 408ci ironblock. the 5.3L heads will need some combustion chamber work for them to work well with a 4.030 bore. I would recommend using 6.0L heads that will flow much better and be easier to adapt to his application.

I am building a 408ci stroker that should see 650-700 engine hp but is a race only setup.

Have your friend give me a call and I can make some suggestions on his setup.

He said he was going to port the heads and do some work to the combustion chamber, if I can get a hold of him I'll tell him to give you a call.
