A4
Everyone here seems to be saying that autos are quicker off the line, I always used to think that if you drop the clutch in a stick you could toast any auto. All you would really have to do is get a heavy clutch and you'll be set. Will someone correct me if im wrong.
I just bought a 99 Z-28 a4 , and I love it. I did my research and after seeing all my buddy's mess with the m6's and trash clutches, and from what I have researched the rearend breakge to m6 ratio is higher than an a4.
For what im gonna be doing its gonna work awesome, plus I live in alaska, which gets slippery sometimes
I plan on a 3500 stall, and 3.73's. So it should be pretty fun, cuttin 1.7 or 1.8 60ft times on Nitto's or BFG's.

People without cars and people with crappy cars which aren't even a manual say: Manuals are faster, manuals are better, etc., etc., etc., etc. People with manuals say manuals are fun to drive and don't directly insult the auto driver. Once I found this out I stopped caring what those people who don't even have cars think.

A stock A4 may not do as well against a very good 6-spd driver at a launch, but it has to be a good stick driver. Most of what you hear is a myth nowadays about manuals launching faster that A4s.
Just remember, once a car is modded (a TC or good clutch w/ gears), things can get very close and both will launch hard, but the A4 will be more consistent and easier to do 98% of the time. And if you cannot launch consistently, how do you ever know if you can beat that guy in the lane next to you?
I have an A4 and I love my Z. Some of my earlier cars were manuals, and I thought they were a blast too. If your friends give you sh*t, well friends do that. If its someone seriously trying to poop on your car, just ignore them. They're just bullies trying to feel better about themselves. However, I might do the M6 conversion, but this is because I like tinkering.
Enjoy your car, Camaro's are lots of fun.
P.S. if some one in a "pregnant roller-skate with a whale tail" dogs on your auto, ask them if they wanna race

Most of the people saying stuff like that are about your age, too, right? Many of the pros and cons have been discussed here already, so I'm not going to start repeating them.
In any case, that is a very trivial issue anyway and nothing to get upset over.
Wait a few more years and things will change.TS

No reason to apologise, sorry if I came off as a @$$.
Some guy with his mustang actually asked me today if my car was a A4 or M6, and when I said A4 he said that's a waste of a car and blah blah.
Well anyways here's my question...what is the best TC and gear setup for a daily driver. Also what will this do to my gas mileage, and should I be expecting high 12's really low 13's with it and my current setup? thx

Hey guys...I speak from experience. I have owned 2 Light Pewter Metallic 2000 Chevrolet Camaro Z28's.
One a M6 and the other an A4.
The A4 gets my vote!!!!!!!
The first Pewter was a M6. Yeah I thought she launched hard, and nothing beat the sound of the engine when she got in to the upper band. But SAFETY became the issue. When your pushing the M6, one hand is always on the stick. This makes its harder to keep your concentration on the road when you push it. Trust me. The M6 only had 11,000 miles on it. During that time, she crashed twice!!!!!!!! In both situations, my mind focused on the rpm loss, and took my concentration away from control of the vehicle.
Today, the A4 has 68,000 miles on it. Ive out manuevered more harrier situations than I've ever experienced in the M6. Plus, I've enjoyed a bit of envy from my friends who drive the M6. If you use all of the 3.06 1st gear without spinning the tires, she will surely take the edge over the 2.67 first gear of the M6. Although I don't really notice it myself. A lot of my M6 friends quietly tell me that my A4 has this menacing "sling shot" effect when I punch it, in other words the acceleration from behind appears to be a lot faster than the M6.
