98 z28 suddenly does not start, but cranks

My 1998 z28 sat for about 1 1/2 months without being cranked. I went to crank it yesterday and the battery was dead, so I charged up the battery. This morning, the car would not start (fully charged battery). It would turn over and act like it wanted to start, but would not. I swapped the fuel pump relay with a known good one and that didn't fix the problem either. Also the car is showing that it has a half tank of gas. It acts like it is not getting any gas maybe?? Any ideas of what the problem is? This car has 125,000 miles and has never had any problems at all.

Swap the Ignition relay with the fan relay and see if it starts. Make sure you put the relays back in the same way they came out.

Get a fuel pressure gauge and check that.

I'll try this today, I'm guessing this will tell me if the fuel pump is working, right?

Besides checking your fuel pressure, check the ign fuses as well as the fuel injector fuses. Both are under the hood. If you have fuel pressure and the fuses are good, check your crank position sensor.

There is no fuel pressure what so ever. No fuel is getting to the engine. How can I check if the fuel pump quit working? (I really don't want to have to remove the tank if at all possible)

All fuses check out good using a multimeter. Where is the crank position sensor?

It's above the starter. You have to drop the starter and it's the top electrical connection. The crank position sensor is about 45 to 75 dollars depending on where you go for it. Check over at ls1tech.com and you should get some more replys.

Would a bad crank position sensor cause the fuel pump not to work?

If you have no fuel pressure your pump is probably toast.

I got my wife to turn the car on while I was under the car to see if I could hear the fuel pump prime when the car was turned on. I hear no noise at all.

Also I felt a click on the fuel pump relay when the car was turned on.

Before I go through the hassle of removing the fuel tank to get to the fuel pump, is there anything else that will cause the fuel pump not to cut on? Will that crank position sensor cause the pump not to even prime?

When my pump went out, I cut a hole above the gas tank and took the pump out that way. They sell doors that you can attach to cover the hole and it will allow you to access the pump again if you ever have to. It will also keep the fuel smell out if you get the sealed one.
The cps I believe only keeps spark from happening, not fuel but I could be wrong.

Looks like I will try cutting a access door like you mentioned to get to the pump.

Go over to ls1tech and do a search for fuel pump door and you should get the area where you need to cut.
