the 98 LS1..iron or aluminum

the 98 LS1..iron or aluminum

I always got the impression that all LS1's LS6's are all aluminum. But someone told me the other day that the early LS1's have iron blocks, is this true?

The ls1,ls6, and ls2 are aluminum.
The lt1, lt4 was iron and it had aluminum heads( i think)

The Gen III engine, which the LS1 is based off does have
cast iron versions, but they are the truck engines.
RPO's - LQ9, LM7, LM4 etc.

I also thought there was an iron headed LT1 that was
used in the Impala.

that's what I thought. but are my heads aluminum too? or just the block?

Yes, the heads are also aluminium LS1 = aluminium block and heads and composite intake manifold with exhaust manifolds that almost match aftermarket shorties in performance

and now you know why its so easy to keep em cool and they get such good performance outta the box
