98 Camaro Z28 - Red Top Optima Battery ???

I want to buy a "Optima Red Top" battery and the Otpima web site said to use the model "RED75/35, 720, Optima, 75DTO". Their web site also said "Height Adapter required". So I wrote to several people selling them on Ebay and they said that the height adapter was included. All well and good. But one of them wrote back and said what I needed was a GM Adapter.

Anyone out there got a Optima Red Top in their LS1 Camaro? What is needed for it to install? Is there such a thing as a GM adapter? The Optima site doesn't mention this.

Thanks for any info............

What works for the 88 works for the 98. Found out the model for the 98 is the same as the 88 camaro I have, so I just transferred it over. Fits nice and snug like it was stock. I'll take pics tomorrow.

Re: 98 Camaro Z28 - Red Top Optima Battery ???

I don't know about those red tops. I am on my third one right now. It has been in the car for about 2 months, driven once and doesn't have enough charge left to kick the car over (so now it looks like i'll be on #4). There are several people around me that have had the same problem with the red tops. One guy with a 69 Camaro, a guy with an 87 GTA, and another with an 02 WS-6 and we have all had the same problems with theses batteries. The guy with the 87 decided to try the yellow top and has since not had any problems, but if I had to do it over again, I never would have bought it.

Re: 98 Camaro Z28 - Red Top Optima Battery ???

I'm the complete opposite of that story, a year now in, maybe over a year I bought it during one of the coldest winters I could remember. My old battery a interstate battery would barely be able to pull off 1 extreme cold start before needing a boost. We're talking -30C mornings. It was ridiculously cold. The optima lasted the rest of the winter until now and has given consistent starts. Even if the engine didn't catch on first shot.

I also recently replaced my battery with a red top in my 1998 SS. No problems, dropped right in...

Just replaced the stock battery with an Optima Red Top. It was a drop-in installation, no adapters or anything needed.

When I changed mine in the 2500 HD I had to use there little plastic hold down thing on the bottom of the battery due to the optima having the cylinders showing. The stock side post one are leaky so be careful and keep an eye on them. Both of mine leaked in the truck (its a DMAX so it has 2) Never had any problems with the red tops in over a year and a half.
