You beat a Z28 with a V6 Dakota?

I think what might have happened was you were racing and he wasn't.

I take care of my car and it has taken care of me. I put premium gas in it, change the oil before 3K miles, etc., etc. I usually get between 22 and 23 MPG.

The only problem I've has is a speaker has gone bad on me, which will need to be replaced soon.

When your car needs tires, be prepared to pay at least $500.

Sounds like you have some convincing to do with your dad before getting the Z, but good luck anyway.

As to what to look for in an LS1, I'd say you just need to check for the usual indicators: dents, previsous repairwork, leaks, noises etc. etc.

LS1's are pretty reliable, so if you get one, like SFB767 said, take care of it and it'll take care of you.

Good luck!

Well I have an 02 Z28 which was not that hard for me to decide on which to buy but be warned, like 95GRNZ said, you are going to have to convince your dad into buying you the Z because Insurance is Expensive.. Sounds like a great dad that is nice to buy you a truck in general... Well I do know what you are feeling because before I bought my 02 Z, I was driving a 94 GMC Sierra LWB truck w/ 4.3L Vortec V6, Auto.. Slow but that was not the reason for me buying a car, the reason was I did not need 3 trucks (2 driveable and 1 parts truck) and plus I was commuting 65 Miles 1 way to work and @ 18 MPG on the freeway, I needed something that would get better mileage.. So I decided to get a Z28 but again insurance is not that cheap as well, I am paying $ 140 a month for my Camaro, and 18 a month for my 68 C10... Which isn't too bad but since I am only 23 actually will be 24 in June, is a lot of money compared to people 25 and older... sheesh my dad pays 35 a month to drive his 2000 Silverado... I wish I could get that cheap for insurance.. Plus if he was driving my 02, that would only cost him around 65 a month to drive since it is considered a sports car to the insurance company... Plus add insurance up too car payment unless ya can pay cash for it... Have ya ever heard of people saying they are car broke because their nice car takes all their money for payment and insurance ?? I know I am car broke but proud to own a nice car....

Interesting. I have a 3.9L Dodge Dakota, and of course the '02 Z28. I love my Dakota- it does what a truck is supposed to do- it hauls, (not *** but stuff), it's rugged, it gets decent gas mileage (it's my daily driver), it's easy to maintain. Yeah, it doesn't handle like a Z/28 and it won't keep up with one either- but hey, it's a v6 truck!

Are you sure about the Z28 race? Cause I can tell you this, I couldn't get anywhere near my Z/28 with the Dakota 3.9L. Not even close! Hell, I couldn't get near the 3800 V6. I think the Dakota is running about 165-170 (flywheel). You're right dude, it is slow!- but it's a decent vehicle.

Make sure you shop around for insurance. Geico quoted me 5400 every 6 months!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Progressive was still halarious, with a 2400/6mo policy! Finally State Farm gave me a 1600/6mo policy, which is 270 a month. I have pretty good coverage too. Insurance was by far my biggest hurdle, so I guess being 21 has its disadvantages.

Make sure you test drive more than 1 Camaro. You'll never know how it's supposed to handle, perform, and feel unless you drive more than one and get a feel for the car and can compare them. (even if you aren't planning on getting the other car) Also, get a 6 speed if you are considering it. It's alot more fun IMO. It's my 80 mile a day commuter car and I have no gripes with the 6 speed... even in traffic.

Good luck... the best advice I can give is look and drive mutiple cars. (that way if there are discrepancies you can find out whats up) Autotrader is wonderful!
