6 speed or auto
I looking to buy a 1999 t0 2002 Z28 or SS. I just want a all around fast car.I don't know what trans to go with 6 speed or A4. I want a silver car but I heard that silver paint will give you problems. Thanks for any help.
Its all a matter of opinion, you'll get all sorts of different replies on this subject. I say 6 spd all the way. I think unless its a serious track car or you drive in insane traffic all the time manual is the only way to go.
Not sure why silver paint would give you problems
Anyways, most people, including myself will say that you should go with the 6 speed manual. It is so much fun ripping through the gears. With an automatic, you lose all the fun of having a fast car. Why do you think all the super cars of the world have manual trannies
M6

If you can't drive an M6 car well (e.g. you aren't able to get a nice 3rd gear scratch in a stock car), just get an A4. You'll win more races. But I personally would never want another automatic transmission in a fast car.
Well depends on what you want to do with your car, if you just want to drive it and don't go to track all the time or care what kind of 1/4 mile times you get, Then Go w/ an M6, if you can find one in good shape..
If you want a Drag car, then A4.. Eventhough my car has an A4, I would have taken an M6 car over mine but since I could not find an M6, I had to settle for an A4, which is still fun to drive though...

Out on the open roads, I absolutely love going WOT through the gears(that is when an M6 is a LOT of fun IMHO).
But just cruising around town in a lot of traffic, in crowded parking lots, or through drive throughs, I get real tired of the manual transmission in those situations. Don't get me wrong, it's not hard or anything, but just a lot of work with no reward. That is where I wish I had an A4. I'm not being lazy, just being honest.
And I agree, try the search feature on this subjet.

My name's TerrorDome, and I drive an auto
i think the 6-speed cars have better gears. my auto has 2.73 gears.
if you get the 6-speed, maybe get an aftermarket shifter like a ripper or something to keep from mis-shifting and bending pushrods.

My friend has 6 spd. LS1 Z28 and it's more fun to drive than my car. Rowing through the gearbox is a blast and it really makes the engine come alive with sound, but like others say, it does get irritating when you're in traffic and around town. With the auto., all you do is smash the gas and the machine does all the work, and there really isn't much speed difference between the M6 and the A4 that's really noticeable.
To answer the question: "M6 or A4??", basically, get what YOU want, and don't base the decision on speed or power, base it on what you like to drive. If you don't have much experience driving standards, maybe a 6-speed behind a 350 HP engine isn't a great idea, but if you know how to drive stick, and that's what you want, then get it. Personally, I would have liked a 6-speed myself, but there aren't a lot of them around here, and besides, I do a lot of stop-and-go driving (my car's a daily driver) so the automatic is much nicer for that. AND, you simply can't f*** up driving an auto

One more for M6. Even in traffic. I love being able to hear the motor. In an automatic it alwasys shifts up and keeps the RPM low. In the M6 I'll leave it in 1st a little longer than I have to and get the exhaust roaring a little in traffic. Then there's the fun of matching rpms in a downshift to 1st coming up to a turn. Fun stuff. Sounds good. Feels good.
