485 hp???????
485 hp???????
Does anyone know about the heads and cam package SLP sells thats supposed to give 485 hp? Sounds very cool if it does, complete package for like 2500. Plus whatever vast amount of time it takes.
Well I havent gotten any specifics on that package because SLP doesnt have anything on their heads for their website. But the $2500 doesnt include a core charge. One of the guys that lives by me had the SLP 465 hp package installed on his firehawk, I believe they are the same package just maybe they put a little lopier cam in the car. Well anyways with the heads, headers, 3.73 and 3200 stall the car pulled 415 hp on a dynojet, I forget how much torque. So really those claims that SLP makes arent that high up pretty much on par with most other heads in that price range.
cam alone
What about just a cqam switch? Cant these approach that hp without spending half that much? I've seen many people claim ~400 hp with just a cam change. What else is needed besides the cam, what is a really good cam, and finally how much will all this cost?
I remember reading a disucssion about that SLP package. Someone posted the cam specs, and although I dont remember it off the top of my head, the specs are something along the lines of a TR224 wit stage 2 heads. The gains are typical of a stage 2 heads/cam swap, but for the price its not worth it. You can price a real TR224 and a nice set of stage 2 heads from Absolute Speed/TEA/CHS/etc for much cheaper than what SLP is selling it for and you will get the same, if not more HP.
And yes, 485 HP is at the crank. It is almost impossible to get to 485 RWHP with just a heads/cam on a stock displacement naturally aspirated LS1.
