40x Build

Due to a up coming job promotion & relocation, I'm re looking at and Thinking over my upcoming mods for my Bird. I've started doing some research on 402 and 408 motor builds. Let me say, I'm not an engine builder, most likely I'll have a local shop do the assemble.
My Goal for this project would be Est500rwhp 500rwtq though an Auto trans. Car would not be a DD, but a Street/Strip Car. Last April-Oct I put about 6k miles on her. I still want to use her for weekend road trips if I please.
I'm leaning towards using L92 Ported Heads and L67 Intake

But I have a few Questions.
The Block LQ9 Vs LS2 I'm not sold on which way to go. I may use power adders the road but sure at this point. But I would like to meet my goal NA. Its to my understanding that LQ9 would be the most cost affect option to reach 408ci

The filament of the motor swap into the car.
What can I expect to change when swapping in this motor? Does any one know of a Thread or Site that covers this in a little more detail?

I know this project will take a longer time line than my Head & Cam original idea's would. But like i said, with the job promotion and relocation its makes a big stroker motor more of an reachable goal

I would say go with the LQ9 block in case you use power adders later and to handle the bore and crank clearancing you will have for that build.

But I'm just an LTx guy so what the hell do I know

You want to use the L76 intake. If you are going to use a power adder of any amount go with an 6.0 iron block for strength. The heads can be had from SDP (Scoggins Dickey) already ported for cheap & great power results. The intake won't take much to clean-up & port-match.

If you are going to super or turbo charge make sure you target a 8.5-9:1 CR, if NA stay just below 11:1. And of course the standard good forged crank & rods w/ARP bolts/studs. If mainly for the strip & high RPM's look to go a little loose on the mains (2.5-3 thou) & break it in w/Shell Rotella for 500 miles then switch to M1 15-50 (if you run a little loose on the mains) or similar. Cam will need to be a grind to match your goals & use as well as FI or NA.

The swap is pretty straight forward as long as a LS is coming out. Just may need an adaptor for the proper MAF & TB.

Good Luck!!!

The LQ9 is the only way to reach 408ci being oversquared at 4.030" x 4.00" and is the stronger iron block.

The LS2 comes in either 4.00" or 4.010" bore (402 or 404ci) and a max of a 4.010" stroke (I'd advise against a 4.100" stroke) You can build a 4.010" x 4.100" 414ci LS2, but you'll wind-up with an undersquared motor.. The 4.100" stroke will cause you to use thin piston tops and higher ring lands, so it's not a good idea for a power-adder on the LS2.

Some nice L92 heads with a valve job and an L76 intake manifold will work well on your build. I'd use a 24x/25x @ .050", .625-.650" 110 LSA cam in there along with a compression ratio of around 12:1 SCR tuned for 93 octane.

Kraset is correct on trying to be as square as possible, that is the ideal goal.
