40 series?

Anyone ever put a 40 or 50 series Flowmaster in their car?

I love the sound of the 40 series mufflers on my 67 400 firebird and was just wondering if anyone has put one in an ls1 or is it always a crossflow?

Do the 40 series suck as much as the crossflow as far as performance goes?

Re: 40 series?

Flowmaster isn't a very popular muffler/catback on the ls-1 cars. There have been a few instances of cars losing power with these systems.

http://www.ls1sounds.com

go there and you can hear what your car will sound like with your flowmaster.

As far as I can tell those are all 80 series mufflers. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any of those are 40 series.

Re: 40 series?

I dont know about LS1 cars, but when youre talking 1 or 2 horsepower compared to other systems, count me in for spending less money and sounding good....With that extra $250+ I saved I can make myself quite a bit of power! for the LS1 I think it would be the 80 series which is a bit more aggressive than the 40....i have 40's on my chevelle, and they sound alot throatier than my 80 series on the camaro....granted they are two different cars but there would be a difference no matter what! 40= throatier 80=more agressive. if i were you i would see whats on that site he gave and most likely those are 80 series, however the 40 sounds nice on a LT1 i have heard with true duals, but not too sure about LS1...

Re: 40 series?

I have the 80 series crossflow, and aside from the lid, it has been my favorite mod.....no it didn't seem to help my horsepower much if at all, but it didn't hurt it at all either. You hear of a lot of people who hate the Flowmaster because other mufflers for hundreds of dollars more will net another few horses.....it's just not a factor for me; I like the way mine sounds, kinda reminds me of my '68 Chevelle SS 396 ....not obnoxious and raspy, but a deep mellow tone.......sure you can spend several hundred bucks and probably get a better sounding one that will help you get a better quarter mile time, but I never race mine, so a tenth or two makes no difference to me. Not many will agree with me about the flowmaster on this site, but I'll still recommend it for sound.

Re: 40 series?

I'm confused too with the 80 series and 40 series thing too. The American Thunder kits for our cars all come with the 80 series as said by Jegs. But when my friend put an 80 series on his 97 Z28 he used to have, it was barely louder than stock. Now with this 94 T/A he has now, the Flowmaster on that is much louder. Both cars have just the muffler and stock tailpipes. Both of us think it's a 40 series, but Flowmaster's website doesn't list an application for the 40 on our cars.

Not sure about the 40 series, but my crossflow 80 series is much louder/deeper than stock.....no comparison.

Re: 40 series?

Does the delta flow version drone as bad as the regular 40 series.

My 67 drones horribly at 1500 - 1800 ish but it doesn operate there much since its a 4 speed with no overdrives.
