Question 380hp??

I just bought a 2002 SS with an A4 and GMMG Chambered Exhaust....I have set my goal for now to get to 380Hp....I just wanted some opinions on the cheapest and or most effective way to get there with this car. I've seen alot of guys use the SLP lids and air bellows with the cold air intakes....but that won't quite get me there I don't think....thanks for the replies in advance.

Are you trying to get it at 380RWHP, or 380 at the flywheel?

if you are referring to 380rwhp, cam with good set of heads can do it. id say at least the cam and a good exhaust including long tube headers, cat back and highflow or no cats (or cutout).

all the little, but still pricey bolt-ons will get you a few ponies here and there but h/c, forced induction, or nitrous will get you to or beyond the 380rwhp mark. its up to you and your budget

Ultimately only H/C can get you to 380RWHP, although with headers (long tube), catback, a lid, and a good tune.. a very mild one can be put in and you should be there without a problem. I don't think a pure bolton car can see 380hp unless its a fluke, though.

So getting 380Hp at the flywheel.....what would that take? I'd love to see it at the rear wheels some day...but cash will have to flow....I've just bought this SS and the LS1 is all new to me as far as getting performance parts and such....

Add on a good set of headers and a good tune and that should put you there or close.

Do you just want the HP number, or do you want to go faster? A torque-convertor/shift kit and rear gears may not be as glamorous, but will shave a half-second off your 1/4 mile times. If I had an A4, those would be my first mods behind a lid and cat-back...

Dont worry about HP#'s put a lid and filter on it and you will probably run 13.0 in the 1/4, add a converter, gear's and drag radial's and you will have a mid to high 12 second car. How do you like the GMMG? I just ordered it for myself and think it may be a little loud with my header's and high flow cat's. I will find out when I get it on next month when I do my cam/head swap.

I'll give you the advise I have given others.

Forget the HP goal!!!!

A converter will be your best mod making your car .5 sec quicker and much more fun to drive, but you will dyno lower.

Also, I'd like to add: I just bought an SLP lid from thunderracing.com for 113$ shipped. I've done my research and a Smooth Bellow (60$ from SLP) isn't worth it and has very little, if any, gains.

Don't necessarily forget your HP goals, since its nice to set them and its just not possible to set a "seat of the pants" goal. 380HP is very reasonable and easily obtainable, and it gives you a good range to get yourself in.

Do a full exhaust (headers, y-pipe w/or w/o cats and a free-flowing cat-back exhaust) with an intake lid first because you'll wind up doing that anyway once you purchase a cam or heads too. Just this setup will give you around 380HP at the engine.

380rwhp is easily attainable in an automatic car without touching the cylinder heads. You'll need full bolt-ons: lid, ported throttle body, pulley, long tube headers, ORY (you've already got the LS6 intake and a good cat-back). Then add in a decent size cam - the MS3 will certainly get you the numbers you're looking for.

^ I agree w/ all the above. ALthough some of the 02's are factory freaks, pulling close to 400 FWHP.

You might be there as it is. Do a full exh, search on some headers... Pacesetter and Flowtech are good performance, good clearance headers. What are your plans for the car? Daily Driver?

The lid is a nice 10~ish hp gain. Popular mod too. HEads and a mid range cam could put you at about 425 hp. MS3 cam, or the 228 cam w/ LS6 Stage 1 heads. Depending on how much you want to spend. Texas speed has an affordable H/C combo, w/ your choice of any type of cam or heads, oil pump, springs and gaskets.

You won't need a overly large cam like the MS3 to hit 380 HP. Just a 224-228 grind will get you there.

People love running these large cams because they sound very agressive and make good peak numbers. The downside besides excess wear on the valve train and poor street manners, they don't make their power until the higher RPM's.
