315 on 9" rim??

A thread in another part of the board showed a Camaro with the 17x9" SS 10-spoke rims with 315 tires on them. Now that I've seen it I guess it can be done.

My question is.......isn't there a strong chance of the tire coming off the rim under hard cornering or a long burnout?

With an actual 315MM wide tire, yes it could get dangerous since it wasn't designed to be on such a narrow rim. I've seen people running BFG Drag Radial 315/35/17 tires on stock SS rims like youre saying and Damn does it ever look like a death trap.

HOWEVER...you will be fine if you run a 315/35/17 NITTO 555R DRAG RADIAL only because it is narrower than they say it is. It's about 295mm wide in reality. I run them on my 17X9.5" rims and they look and handle great enough that I Autocross with them and can probably pull over 1G with the way my car's setup. If that isn't proof enough(and yes I was worried a little also at first) then I don't know what to tell you. Goodluck!

Hello,

I'm new on this board; but surely not at GM's...
My CV includes 1975 Corvette L82 A4 , 1978 Corvette L82 M5, 1981 Corvette A4, 1984 Camaro A4, 1987 GTA TransAM A4, 1997 Camaro Z28 A4, 2002 Camaro SS M6 (my best one...)

Now you know me, here is my question :

I was considering getting larger tires at rear on 9X17 rims, and keeping 275 at front.

Since I understand that 315 are designed for wheels larger than 9", what would be the largest possible tires that could fit on 9X17?

NOTE: I just love my chrome wheels and would'nt never change.

...and by the way, how this change would interfere with ASR and/or ABS?

usually people write it 17x9, not 9x17. just fyi.

295 is a safe one to try, shouldn't have problems in the rear.
