3:73 or 4:10 experience
3:73 or 4:10 .....
I have a 98ss with the m6. My only mods are loudmouth, ftra, lid and pro-5 shifter. I dont plan on adding much more for power. My rear is whining and am going to need some gears soon. I cant decide between 3:73 or 4:10 . Let me know what you guys think.
I only take my car to the track about 3 times a year and do not do any hard launches. I do not plan on putting on any drag radials . I have regular street tires on it. Let me know what you guys think and what experience you have had. Also I have the auburn differential that came from slp. Is this posi unit any good or should I change it. Let me know what you guys think. What gears are the best. I was planning on gettting the package from thunderracing with the strange gears.
thanks

I got 3.73's because i drive about 60miles on the highway per day. At 80 mph your around 2000 RPM... I believe with the 4.10's your at 2000 rpm at 70mph.
I'm shifting more with the 3.73s than i was with my 3.42s, so i would think 4.10's may be a little extreme for a daily driver. I'm pretty happy with mine, so I would reccomend them.
BTW, I got the Strange 3.73's and they do whine a little. They are much better now after the break in, but they are still annoying at certain speeds, they start whining at about 50mph and quiet down around 80 or 90 mph. Motives are supposed to whine less, so I'd reccomend them. I would have gotten them, but when I was going to purchase last month, everyone I tried was sold out of motives until the end of April, and i didn't want to wait.
Good luck!

The reason why I ask is because when I'm doing 70, I'm right at 2,000 RPM, and I've heard that the guys with 2.73s will do 70 at less RPM.

ohhhh you have an auto... sorry, I have an M6... 6th gear's really tall
Yeah, RPMs will be higher with the A4... I'm not sure what though... there is a gear calculator... i think it's www.fbody.org/gears not sure though.. it'll tell you your speed and RPM with a given gear
