241 head question

Somebody recently suggested to me, to get a set of 241 heads, and fully port and mill them. That they would make a big difference. Saw a set for 75 $. would that be better than going with 243 heads? Thoughts comments??

Re: 241 head question

317 heads were also mentioned doing same thing

Helps if we know something about your car and what you want to do with it?
Since you are looking at LS stuff can we guess you are not looking to mod a 93 anymore?
I thought 241s were stock LS1 heads, 243s are LS6 heads and ultimately more capable, but ported 241s should be better than as cast 243s.
317s have the same ports as 243s BUT they have a big combustion chamber for low compression on the truck 6.0l engines.

Why not add a "signature" with that info, and avoid people having to ask for more info before they can help you?

Re: 241 head question

317s are more commonly used for boost applications so they aren't optimal for an N/A engine. As said above ported 241s are better than stock 243s but I would recommend ported 243 with a cam in the mid 230s. Before my friend decided to go turbo we specd out an N/A setup and with stock heads we were going to throw in a torquer v2 which is 232/234 I believe so something a little bigger with worked heads should be no problem to be streetable

Re: 241 head question

Keep in mind that your 98 uses a perimeter bolt valve cover. If you were to swap the heads to either a 241 or a 243 casting you will need the centerbolt valve covers. Furthermore, the ignition coils bolt directly to the perimeter valve covers, while the centerbolt covers has a bracket that bolts to the cover which mounts the coils.
