2002 Z28 automatic upgrades?
I am new to the forum and recently purchased a 2002 Z28 automatic. Most of my friends chastise me and say i should have purchased a 6-speed manual. Ok i get that but i obviously didnt. Question is, is there anything worth upgrading under the hood. I searched around and either my search-foo is weak or i dont even know where to start. My friends say its not even worth trying but i feel like they are just being bias. Any suggestions?

alright! now we are getting somewhere! I use this car mainly for daily driving. Mostly to get to work and back and around town when my wife is gone with the kid. So what would be the best route to take? Like i stated in my intro im not real savy under the hood so youll have to bear with me. Just kinda looking for options.

A cold air intake is not very had to instal.. next you should go to the exhaust and do as much as you can afford. long tube headers , full exhaust , muffler better flowing cats. transmissions shift kit
the upgrades can add up fast this should get you started.

1st make sure you upgrade your air lid & cat back (if stk). next if you have any wheel hop do sfc (sub frame connectors), lca's (lower control arms) for traction. headers & gears if in your budget. if you want to upgrade your auto A4, shift kit, servo, boost valve, aluminum pan, stall converter, cooler. after that if your bud can still smoke you heads n cam or bigger motor! cheers! ps a pro tune is very important. for racing a beast shell for your auto.

Forget the canned tune get a real tune a mail order tune would be 100x better.
Get a Magnaflow/Corsa/ Borla. forget the Chokemaster.
OE Wheels has a great selection at decent prices.

Which rear axle does your 2002 have? Could be either 2.73:1 (RPO = "GU2"); or 3.23:1 (GU5)? You can look at the service parts label (glove box or driver's door) to see which RPO code it has.
Makes a difference, because the 2.73 gears can hold you back.

Definitely need to replace the 2.73's with a higher numerical gearset. Options are 3.23, 3.42, and 3.73. Which ratio you go with will depend to some extent on what path you choose to higher HP, how much HP you are looking for, and your budget. Another consideration is a higher stall torque converter. Some mod's like a turbo, need to build RPM to produce torque. Ditto with an aggressive camshaft.
Key piece of info is your budget. I'm more knowledgeable regarding the LT1 engine. Hopefully if you can home in on a budget, the people who know the LS1 engine can give you more specific guidance.
