2001 Camaro Z28 mods output
A friend of mine says that his 2001 Camaro Z28 w/ t-tops with produce a whopping 429hp with these mods:
-Ram air hood - 15HP
-K&N High Flow Air Filter 10% Power Increase 10%(310) = 30HP
-Hypertech Power Programmer - 19HP
-Mass air flow sensor upgrade he got from ebay (it's a piece of friggin wire) = 20HP
-Flowmaster and exhaust = 25HP
OK, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe this at all. It has an automatic tranny btw.

here's what he's really got
-Ram air hood - maybe 5, when he's going faster than 60 mph
-K&N High Flow Air Filter 10% Power Increase 10%(310) = 0, even K&N won't claim more than 5
-Hypertech Power Programmer - maybe 10, if it didn't cause any detonation problems, in that case minus 10
-Mass air flow sensor upgrade he got from ebay (it's a piece of friggin wire) = sounds like the AIT timing tricker pretty much ineffective, see above about detonation on hot days, useless on cold days
-Flowmaster and exhaust = Flowmaster is good for 5 at best, personally I got nothing, but it sounds like 25 hp
and if really believes he has 429 rwhp ... ask him to go back it up with a low 11 second/high 10 second time slip

That's what is known as "stacking" horsepower. If a lid gives 15 hp alone and a muffler gives 10 hp alone, they don't necessarily give 25 hp together.
Besides that, you can never trust manufacturer's/salesman's claims about power gains.

That total output is completely believable IF he's talking gross horsepower. Assuming he has 300 rwhp * 1.2= ~360net hp * 1.15 = ~414 gross hp.
The mod gains he's mentioned are wacked regardless of what type of horsepower he's referring to.

I have a 2001 Z28 Camaro with everything you mentioned except the changed MAF. I have no ware close to the numbers you mentioned. Her is my estimate on the gain you could see.
Stock rear wheel hp: 295
Ram air with K&N: 10
Flowmaster: 5
Hypertech: -5 (I lost .1 sec & 1.5 mph in 1/4 w/ power programming)
MAF: 4 (I read an article in popular hot rodding they gain 4)
Total gain: 19 w/o Hypertech power programming
Total HP: 314
Don’t get me wrong about Hypertech. It has other advantages than HP such as speedometer fix for gear change, adjusting shift points, rev limiter, cooler thermostat and shift firmness.
Tell your friend to get a grip.
