2 questions about valvetrain componets
What roller rocker ratio would work best with say...ported heads and a mild street cam?
Which are better self aligning or non self aligning?
What lenght pushrods with that?

Hey....what are you planning???
IMO, you're better off just getting a more aggressive cam, and leaving the rocker ratio & pushrod lengths alone. I don't see *anything* wrong with replacing the stock rockers, with some aftermarket pieces (see Yella Terra for example), but I wouldn't bump up the ratio at all... This is all assuming you're talking LS1 anyway...

Shane

Shane!.......hey its Eric....your neighbor.
Yes i'm talking about the LS1.....in my future car, i'm thinking ahead. I'm learning as much as possible. What is the stock rocker ratio? Are they roller rockers?
Good idea but with a cam like that there would be a lope sound (rough idel) which I don't want much at all. So I was thinking to bump the rr ratio up 1 and put a less wild agressive cam to compensate.

Hehe...yeah, I knew it was you, Eric, I just thought maybe you had an LS1 on the way already or something...
Stock ratio is 1.7:1. They are not what most people think of when they say "roller rockers". They do *not* have a roller tip, but they do have a roller fulcrum. There probably is a small amount of hp to be gained just from going aftermarket, even with the 1.7 ratio, just because they will be stronger and flex less than the stockers.
I must admit, I have not heard an LS1 with a higher-ratio rocker setup. I would *guess* that a car with a cam & 1.8 rockers would sound very similar to a car with a similar cam, with higher lift numbers, and the 1.7 rockers. In general, idle issues are more directly influenced by low lsa than by lift/duration.
Face it Eric...you ain't gonna have a sleeper with a heads/cam car...

Shane

I'd like the sleeper effect but....ahh who cares.I may have got a LS1 this comming summer but I think i'm gonna go to New York for a while. I'm gonna learn how to do all car work with my dad's brother so then I can save a ton of $ for modifying the car.
