Unhappy 2-3 missed shift

Last night I got beat by a Mitsubishi Lancer I think. We (my 250 lb. brother and I) were coming back from Atlantic City (on the GSP) and this guy came up next to me. We both dropped down to 2nd gear and he pulled ahead when I went from 2nd to 3rd (M6) and he stayed ahead til around 120 mph or so. My question is: does anyone else have trouble shifting fast from 2nd to 3rd on an M6. Even at the track I find 5th or grind or nothing. I just have to shift slow and I lose time and speed. Speed or power shifting 1st - 2nd is fine. I have the factory Hurst shifter. Any help or clues??

Thanks.

Re: 2-3 missed shift

I've missed 3rd a few times when I was still learning how to drive a stick (still am), but haven't in awhile. I haven't driven any other manual car, so I can't compare shifters first hand, but I don't think the stock Hurst is too bad. 2-3 shifts are a no brainer now, and I can shift as fast (about like any standard automatic) then as on any other gear. One thing I was doing wrong is hitting the gate between 3rd and 5th when I missed. Just remember you don't have to move as far over to the right as you think.

Have the Pro 5.0 myself .. no complaints. I'd say find an aftermarket shifter you like.

I have driven a few cars with the factory Hurst and I'm not a big fan. Upgrade to an aftermarket shifter. I have the Hurst billet and I love it.

Re: 2-3 missed shift

With the factory hurst, I have no problems. I find that many people dont practice or study their car. LEARN it.. Practice whenever you get a chance to go into 3rd. It doesnt have to be at WOT but just practice the shift, the movement, your hand position.

Best mod in the world is a better driver.
