Exclamation 1st oil change... help!!

What is the best oil for the '02 LS1 (Z28). Should I go synthetic, or is there better oil out there. What came stock in the car? I thought it came with Mobile 1 synthetic, but now when I try to back up my story, I can't prove it anywhere. The dealer just gave me a free oil change and marked the product as "bulk oil". What that told me is DRAIN IT ASAP and put something else in. I need help, guys. What are your opinions.....

I use quaker state synthetic for high horsepower and think it works pretty well... either that or just about everyone seems to think that mobil one synthetic is the best...

Go with synthetic for sure. I use Mobil 1 cuz you can but it at Costco! But Royal Purple and Redline are just as good, just harder to find and cost a bit more.

Oh yeah, I use AC Delco oil fliters but I get the one that fit on the trucks. It's longer = more filter area. I think it's a AC53, but don't quote me on that.

I run Amsoil 10W30 and the AC Delco filter. Use the filter for a 2001 5.3L Silverado. Lucky for me, that's my wife's truck. So I just stock up on the same filter.

If you live in the great white North you can run 5W30 synthetic but in the South I'd stick to 10W30. Just get rid of the Chevron "bulk oil". That's the brand my dealer uses. They can keep it.

All the Oil testing ive seen done has shown redline to kick mobil ones ***. none of the other guys even compare. I have yet to see any recent tests on amsoil (tho i have heard alot of people say it disscolours the internal componets).

The current way to go based on the oil results guys are getting to go redline, then mobil one.... royal purple was generally frowned upon based on the results people got. I had a really bad experience with it too.

It's part # PF58 (AC Delco). I just couldn't remember the number. If you forget the number you can look up one for the 5.3 Silverado. It's a little longer than the stock filter and is supposed to give more filtering area and less flow restriction. My oil pressure is still about the same. Some have said that their pressure increased. But it was possible that their old filters were in a bit too long and were a bit clogged. It has the same dimensions as the stock filter except it is about an inch longer. Don't worry it still doesn't extend beyond the bottom of the oil pan.

I am a newbie here but I am going to give my two cents, I always have used Amsoil 5w-30 in my 2000 Z28 and have never had a problem, I even use their filter and air filter. I dont go by there 7,500 mile oil change but I dont worry if I go over 3000 miles either, just my two cents
