160 thermostat

I'm thinking about getting a 160 thermostat, do I have to get the 50 dollar hypertech one or can I just go to autozone and get a cheap one???

This 'mod' is more for carb'ed engines with iron/aluminum intake manifolds and no computers. LS1s like to run warm, not cold. It is a serious waste of time. Plus you run on the edge of closed loop operation (not efficient).

With the predator I can tell the car at what temps the fans will turn on. I have always heard that the car runs better 10-20 degrees below what it runs stock.... Can someone clarify this?

I agree with Stik6shift, you NEED something to tell the fans to turn on i.e Predetor like u said. Some people have the fans turn on at 160, some at 170 etc. I have mine at 170 i believe, so it never goes over that.

Honestly, I did not see any difference without the fan switch. My fan sometimes starts running, indicating that the temperature still goes up to 215 degrees.... well, here in FL the air that is supposed to cool the water in the radiator is already 100 degrees warm....with the fan switch it would work just fine....I might just buy one one of these days....

thats what im trying to say.....thermo is worthless without the fans kicking in a bit earlier.....

that makes me wonder if a fan switch without a thermo would help out more then just a thermo.....
