160 Thermostat

2002 SS, M6, cold air box, K&N, getting ready to add cat back system, however, I purchased a 160 degree thermostat from SLP a few months ago. I have been told by several mechanics that if I add the 160, it will make my computer think the car is not at operating temp, therefore, will retard the performance. Any insight? Should I install the 160 or will it rob me of power?

Again, comments, direction and thoughts are apreciated.

Thanks

There will not be any adverse affects of using that thermostat. It only is the temp that it will open, the car may still go over that temp.

Thats not true, but even if it were, your car richens up the timing when the engine is cold to help warm itself up quicker, so, in theory, it would make your car run better if it thought it was too cold.

Relax, many people, myself included, run the 160 stat with no prolbems.
