Is a 160 degree thermostat wise?
The 160 thermostat won't hurt because it doesn't change anything at all if you don't change the fan settings.... I wanted to do something good for my engine and installed it and if the gauge is true there's no difference in temperature....still just below 200, sometimes higher so that the fans come on when I'm at a red light. Factory setting is 215, right ? So if the temp goes up that high then the water in the radiator needs to get better cooling.... I wonder if it's worth the money to get the fan switch or PP3.... I also heard that the gauge is not very exact on the and up Camaros....
LS1's do like the heat, I found out for sure when I dynoed my car a month back. Put it through about 20 runs (only got charged for 3 though
) When it was cooler it would be anywhere from 5-10 rwhp LESS than the peak it was making when it was warm. It ran the hardest on the last of 4 consecutive pulls.
Nate.
