1500 Budget

I just recently bent a rod or two i beleive (knocking noise) and i decided to just take the 1500 i have saved up buy the stuff and earn some more money to have them installed... So my question to u is... what do i buy to fix my rods and make them stronger? Where do i buy from? What brands are good? And what should i do with the other like 1200 ill have left over? I was thinking Cam and Pistons and i think that will still leave me with some cash.... any other ideas or better ideas.... please provide...

Thanks,
John

you can get lunati or slp pushrods for about $125. cam itself ( a good one, lunati, crane, comp) will be around $350. j.e pistons will run you $600. all this is not including install. pushrods and porting your stock heads= $1200.

Those are wierd prices, but the stuff for LS1's is different I am guessing.

My rods for LT1 Forged Scats were 350ish
My Cam for LT1 was 200
My SRP Forged Pistons were 400

Then I'd say some 1.6rrs(250), I don't know how good valve springs on LS1's are, but LT1's are shoddy for any aftermarket cam so figure 100$ for springs. I'd go with chromoly/4130 forged pushrods too.

So many things you can do...

Check out Thunder Racing . They are a supporting advertiser here and have some really good cam packages that include pushrods, springs, cam, gaskets, basically everything you need to install a cam for $700. Do that along with some headers. I would go with pacesetters or flowtechs for around $500 for coated headers and y-pipe. A member here (teke184) did a writeup on how to install the flowtech headers. If I were you I would install the headers myself and save some money for the install on those. Then with the $300 you have left get a clutch so you can harness the exrta power you now have. I wouldn't really worry about getting pistons right now. These cars respond very well to basic boltons. Oh yeah, if you do a cam swap you will want to get it tuned also so make sure you save some money for that as well.
