15-16 MPG, is this normal gas mileage

I have an '02 Z28. The only mods are FRA and cutout. My MPG is consistently 15 to 16 MPG. This is with normal driving, very little aggression (maybe only once or twice a week) in isolated incidents. Is this normal, or should I expect this. There is 15,500 miles on the car. What do you guys think? What do you guys get with similar mods?

Do you do mostly city driving? I do mostly highway driving, and get about 23MPG.

I was surprised to hear in a recent poll that some were getting 18+. Yeah right, I am LUCKY to get 14. I avg. 12-13 with a Corsa cat-back, Direct-flo lid, 85mm MAF, Holley filter and HPP+. to tell you ther truth it was about the same before as well. Hard driving, or taking it easy doesn't make a huge bit of difference either.
BTW, I have an 02 Z vert.

Cool

I think as a rule I get around ~18 mpg, but I've gotten as low as 15-16, but also as high as about 25-27 I think. I really depends on whether it's highway or city driving. Also, 25+ would have been with 2.73's..............now with 3.73's, my mileage has been very consistent around ~18.

EDIT: I just re-calculated the math, and I actually get closer to 20 mpg.................not a big difference, but thought it was worth noting!

That sounds about right.. Considering the EPA rating is 17, and thats under a controlled test. Its really easy, especially in town in stop and go traffic to drop your gas milage.. I usualy avg around 14-17 mpg in town.. To get good gas milage in town, you really have to be careful.. Only time I get 18-20 is when I hit the highway more than usual that time.

On my roadtrip across the US, I was averaging 24-27 mpg cruising highway!

Since I have owned the car I have averaged 16.8329432 MPG. That is almost all city driving.

I had a 93 Z with an A4 and never got better then 17 mpg, consistently 16 though. I drive my 00 SS M6 with a lead foot and never gotten lower then 17 mpg . if you can keep the rpms below 2000-2500 you should get pretty good mpg

A4 or M6?

I'm getting over 18 miles per gallon in a 50/50 mix, which admittedly is down from the 20 I used to get... but the 20 was before I installed the turbo.

I'm a pretty aggressive driver, too.

I haven't been able to understand the difference in mileage that I see in these cars, but it does vary as widely as the mods.

It's an m6. It is mostly city driving that I do, but on occasion make about a 50 mile highway trip. Maybe I could also note that I have the "skip shift" fix in too. I don't think that makes a whole lot of difference, because I would gun it anyway to not have to shift into 4th without it. So, from what I see from the replies is that 16-17 is norm and there are a few "statistical outliers" that seem to be getting better than that. Of course that analysis is only from the replies to this post .

I would normally get 20-23 with mixed driving, but with extreme driving in town, I'd never get lower than 17. I've never taken it on a long trip yet (I will in a week) so I don't know how it'd do then, but probly 25-27 like everyone else, and I hear headers make it even better (about 2 more mpg)

That's what I get on the highway with an M6 @ 70mph w/ no A/C. That ought to make some people feel better.

Damn, that DOES suck. I've always heard that M6's with headers can get damn near 30 mpg. Must just be those LOOOONG trips eh?

On a long term basis (36000 miles) I've averaged just over 22 MPG. Only have a lid. I drive about 70 miles per day with most of it in the 55MPH zone.

Your driving habits are the same as mine, 70 MPH and no A/C. Do you also have one hand on the wheel and the other out the window?

Get this though. About a month ago I went to see a friend over in Tampa right, well, we did a lot of hot-rodding over there just to mess around with our cars, and my gas gauge hardly moved. Just before I made the trip back home that night, I filled up my car and it only took just over 9 gallons! So I'm thinking WTF is wrong? I pulled out a calculator and my car got 26.** MPG after all that jackrabbiting and full throttle starts all day!
