Post 1/4 mile times need help

I just got a ls1 powered z-28 with the 6 speed. Ive been reading about peoples times and see that people are running about 13.6's around 103 stock. I took mine to the track and the best I ran was a 14.071 @ 102.96 I was pissed off. I know its faster I need advice on my takeoffs. What is a good RPM to start off the line with anybody that can help me out would be great thanks

I would start by improving your 60-ft times. For every 0.1 sec you improve in your 60-ft you will improve 0.2 sec in the quarter mile.

The first place to start is sticky tires. Get an extra set of rims for the track and mount either ET streets or drag radials. That alone will put you in the mid to low 13 second range.

I saw a Z28 SS M6 that the only Mods were a heavy duty clutch, ET Streets and a Whisper Lid (w/K&N filter) run 12.7 sec quarter mile with a 1.6 sec 60-ft time. He was launching at about 4000 rpm's.

With stock tires you need to keep your rpm's low when launching other wise you will spin off the line. In drag racing spinning is very bad.

Good Luck,

Al

i launch at around 2200 with the stock goodyear f1's. just do a small burn out to get the tires a little stickier. works for me, ive run 13.5 at 105 totally stock, except for a b&m shifter.

If the weather is nice meet me at 4:30pm on Wednesday at Mid Michiagn Motorplex in Stanton. I'll work with you 'till you get things ironed out.
Look for the blue green chameleon Formula plated BADBIRD trailered by a charcoal sportside GMC.
